# Celtic: Cameron Carter-Vickers update emerges

**Celtic will sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis from Tottenham in January, according to [Spurs insider John Wenham](https://www.footballinsider247.com/tottenham-insider-celtic-really-like-carter-vickers-this-is-when-they-will-sign-him/).**

### The Lowdown: Carter-Vickers’ Celtic start

Carter-Vickers was Celtic’s [12th](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371) and final summer addition, joining on [loan with an option to buy](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1432839838974287875?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1432839838974287875%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-40721794954258006765.ampproject.net%2F2109102127000%2Fframe.html).

The 23-year-old, described as [‘quick’](https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/19130330.woodgate-reveals-carter-vickers-heavily-list-middlesbrough-boss/) by Jonathan Woodgate, [scored](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cameron-carter-vickers/leistungsdaten/spieler/341049) on his Hoops debut in a 3-0 win over Ross County and has kept his place in the [side](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cameron-carter-vickers/leistungsdaten/spieler/341049) in defeats to Real Betis and Livingston.

Ange Postecoglou described Carter-Vickers’ debut as [‘excellent’](https://thecelticbhoys.com/2021/09/11/celtic-manager-jota-carter-vickers-debut/), and Wenham has backed the [£20,000-a-week](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/tottenham-hotspur-fc/cameron-carter-vickers-23049/#:~:text=Current%20Contract,cap%20hit%20of%20%C2%A31%2C040%2C000.) defender to move on a full-time basis as soon as the New Year.

### The Latest: Wenham’s comments

Spurs insider Wenham was talking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/tottenham-insider-celtic-really-like-carter-vickers-this-is-when-they-will-sign-him/) regarding Carter-Vickers.

He believes Celtic will exercise their option to make the defender’s move permanent ‘as soon as January’.

> “Celtic, in my opinion, will take up that option to buy him as soon as January.
>
> “He is starting games and scored a goal, they really like him. For whatever reason at Tottenham, he has been there too long without making it.
>
> “Sometimes you need to go elsewhere and establish yourself. Wherever he has been he has done really well.
>
> “I know Luton wanted to keep him and Bournemouth would have kept him but the money wasn’t quite right.
>
> “I think Celtic will end up keeping him.”

### The Verdict: Shrewd move?

Should Carter-Vickers continue to impress Postecoglou, making his move permanent in the winter window could be a shrewd decision.

Postecoglou still wants more centre-backs following the summer window, so tying down the [USA international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cameron-carter-vickers/profil/spieler/341049) on a full-time basis could help him push on.

Celtic Park is Carter-Vickers’ [seventh](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cameron-carter-vickers/transfers/spieler/341049) temporary home away from Tottenham, so making it his permanent home may benefit both the Hoops and the defender himself.
