# Celtic: Christopher Jullien deal falls through ‘last minute’

**[Celtic](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/celtic-news/) defender Christopher Jullien’s proposed switch to Schalke is off, according to [Sport 1](https://www.sport1.de/news/transfermarkt/2022/06/schalke-04-christopher-jullien-transfer-von-celtic-glasgow-geplatzt?utm_source=sharing_platform&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharing_app) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/celtic-exit-fallen-last-minute-dof-agents-unable-find-common-denominator/)).**

### The lowdown: Move on…

Having fallen out of favour at Parkhead, the 29-year-old is believed to be seeking more [regular first-team football](https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/sport/football/christopher-jullien-reveals-celtic-game-26957400) after returning to full fitness following a spate of [wretched luck](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christopher-jullien/verletzungen/spieler/201737) with injuries.

Amidst interest from Schalke, Jullien had already [flown to Germany](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/christopher-jullien-celtic-transfer-exit-24348625) in order to complete a lengthy medical with the newly promoted Bundesliga side ahead of a mooted £1.5million loan move with an option to buy.

However, despite [Fabrizio Romano claiming](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1542078050157854720) it was more or less a ‘done deal’ with the formalities all but sealed and a ‘contract to be signed later today (Wednesday)’ , Jullien is now expected to return to Glasgow and the Hoops’ ranks…

### The latest: Move off…

As per [Sport 1](https://www.sport1.de/news/transfermarkt/2022/06/schalke-04-christopher-jullien-transfer-von-celtic-glasgow-geplatzt?utm_source=sharing_platform&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharing_app), translated by [SW](https://sportwitness.co.uk/celtic-exit-fallen-last-minute-dof-agents-unable-find-common-denominator/), Jullien’s departure has collapsed for the time being.

It’s claimed that the deal has ‘fallen through at the last minute’ having already undergone a medical check.

The report states that Jullien – who was lauded for a [‘absolutely outstanding’](https://twitter.com/NoNotThatDevlin/status/1168145547565424640) display in an Old Firm victory in September 2019 by reputable journalist Kieran Devlin – and Schalke director Rouven Schroder failed to find a ‘common denominator’ in negotiations.

### The verdict: Mind made up

It appears that there is no way back into Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the [£4.05million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christopher-jullien/marktwertverlauf/spieler/201737) Jullien now, particularly as the Bhoys were almost instantaneously [linked](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/who-malick-thiaw-celtic-transfer-24356476) with Malick Thiaw as a replacement, and finding another suitor during the transfer window should be the priority for all parties.

Not helped by the injuries, the [6 foot 3](https://www.fotmob.com/players/314437/christopher-jullien) Frenchman has been usurped in the pecking order at Celtic Park by Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and academy prospect Stephen Welsh, only making [one solitary appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christopher-jullien/leistungsdaten/spieler/201737) last season as a result.

Nobody would benefit from keeping an unhappy and unwanted Jullien at Lennoxtown, therefore the club should help in the process of finding a suitable move away that will also see a timely boost to the Hoops’ own coffers after the [confirmed](https://theathletic.com/news/alexandro-bernabei-celtic-transfer-news/zB2fFB4EiGWU/) arrival of Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus.
