# Celtic: Club closes in on contract extension for Conor Hazard

**Premiership champions Celtic are reportedly closing in on a bumper contract extension for their 22-year-old goalkeeper Conor Hazard.**

### Celtic in talks for Hazard’s new contract

[The Scottish Sun have recently](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/6406518/celtic-conor-hazard-bumper-contract-extension/) reported that goalkeeper is now closing in on sealing a bumper new deal for himself and talks for the same have been going on since earlier this summer.

Because of Hazard’s recent emergence in the club’s first-team, Neil Lennon is keen to see the club tie up the goalkeeper’s long-term future – especially since his current deal at Parkhead runs out in the summer of 2021.

The[report also claims](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/6406518/celtic-conor-hazard-bumper-contract-extension/) that Hazard is now expected to be handed an extended run in the Celtic first-team. This comes some days after the Northern Irishman’s [recent appearances against](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-hazard/leistungsdaten/spieler/322770) Lille in the Europa League and against Kilmarnock in the Premiership.

Dundee United [wanted to sign Hazard](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/6406518/celtic-conor-hazard-bumper-contract-extension/) on a loan deal in the summer, but the Hoops decided to not go ahead with the deal.

### Deserved contract extension for Hazard

Lennon has already compared Hazard to Craig Gordon and has also heaped a lot of praise on the goalkeeper in recent days. Lennon was also sure that Gordon would’ve had a positive impact on Hazard, whose recent performances have been hailed as ‘absolutely excellent’ by the Hoops boss ([as per Belfast Telegraph](https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/scottish/celtic/conor-hazard-set-for-extended-celtic-run-and-new-contract-as-neil-lennon-explains-craig-gordon-comparisons-with-young-northern-ireland-keeper-39858976.html)).

This clearly shows that Lennon now trusts Hazard a lot and considering the fact that he wants the goalkeeper to sign a new deal, perhaps we can expect the 22-year-old to feature more often for the Bhoys in the next few weeks.
