# Celtic: Darren Bent believes Bhoys will regret not signing Fraser Forster

**Former England striker Darren Bent believes that Celtic will rue not signing Fraser Forster, and may end up “biting the bullet” in January despite the goalkeeper’s huge wages.**

### Bent predicts big bucks to be spent

The 32-year-old has had several spells at Parkhead over the past ten years. Forster joined Southampton for [£10m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/28729222) back in 2014 but made the loan switch north of the border [five years later](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49433217).

Last season, the Englishman kept 17 clean sheets from 39 appearances in all competitions for Neil Lennon’s side before the campaign was cut short due to coronavirus ([TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fraser-forster/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/52570/plus/0?saison=2019&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)), helping them clinch [nine-in-a-row](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/celtic-champions-scottish-season-cut-short-coronavirus/15lilz42rs56a1rnbb71xbmm49).

Recent [reports](https://www.footballinsider247.com/revealed-key-update-on-celtic-potentially-signing-fraser-forster-in-january/) suggested that Forster would demand wages in the region of £100k-a-week, already on £70k-a-week at Southampton ([Spotrac](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/southampton-fc/payroll/)). But maybe he is worth it – his teammate Maya Yoshida once described him as a “monster” after a string of consistent performances for Ralph Hassnhuttl’s side (via [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/southampton/12145578/Southamptons-monster-Fraser-Forster-proves-unbeatable-once-again.html)).

Speaking with [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/100k-a-wk-is-a-lot-of-money-exclusive-bent-on-blockbuster-celtic-january-update/), Bent believes that the Hoops might end up going back in for Forster despite his high wages with the South Coast outfit.

“He’s on a lot of money. They might end up biting the bullet,” he warned.

“He’s always been a good goalkeeper, I’ve always liked him, and he’s always quite impressed me.

“He seems to be one of those goalkeepers who, I wouldn’t say goes under the radar but people don’t really speak about him as much as they do others.

“Potentially Celtic might have another look at it, but £100,000-a-week is a lot of money.”

### Transfer Tavern take

After the disastrous start that Vasilis Barkas has had in a Celtic shirt since his £4.5m move from AEK Athens at the beginning of the season, the Hoops have got nothing to lose by re-signing Forster.

Already [proven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fraser-forster/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/52570/plus/0?saison=2019&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) at Scottish level and with plenty of Premier League acclaim, there is far less uncertainty regarding the 6 foot 6 shot-stopper’s addition to Neil Lennon’s squad than there was with Barkas.

Time will tell whether Bent is right. But moving for Forster would be a good move as they go for ten-in-a-row.
