# Celtic: Dermot Desmond to make huge board room change

**Celtic majority shareholder Dermot Desmond is expected to replace the club’s chief executive Peter Lawwell in the summer, according to [reports](https://www.footballinsider247.com/lawwell-expected-to-step-down-at-celtic/).**

### Lawwell to leave?

It has been a testing time for the supporters to endure. Recent [reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/celtic-news/celtic-nick-hammond-position-at-risk-as-bhoys-seek-huge-changes/) suggested that changes were in order this summer, with transfer guru Nick Hammond being one of those to be shipped out of Parkhead.

This comes after what has been a disastrous campaign from every aspect. If Celtic being [21](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/celtic-news/celtic-nick-hammond-position-at-risk-as-bhoys-seek-huge-changes/) points behind arch-rivals Rangers was bad enough, Neil Lennon’s side opted to head to [Dubai](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55621350) on a warm-weather training camp despite Scotland currently in locked down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While Lawwell initially [defended](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12179616/celtic-defend-dubai-trip-amid-criticism-from-scottish-government) the decision, he made a drastic U-turn and [apologised](https://www.celticfc.com/news/2021/january/Message-to-our-supporters/) after [13](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/11/celtic-trip-dubai-under-scrutiny-after-player-tests-positive-for-covid) players, including Lennon, were forced to self-isolate.

According to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/lawwell-expected-to-step-down-at-celtic/), Desmond is set to offload Lawwell in what will be the most high-profile departure this summer on the back of the [intense scrutiny](https://twitter.com/NCCeltic/status/1350064525287022594) that he has received. The report claims Desmond is plotting “major changes behind the scenes”.

### Transfer Tavern Verdict

This will be welcomed by segments of the Celtic fanbase that want Lawwell to step down. It has been a campaign to forget for them both on, and off the pitch.

While it looks unlikely that they will win 10-in-a-row, it means that they can finally look to the future if these wholesale changes are carried out at the end of the season.

Time will tell who Desmond opts to bring in – and whether Lennon falls under that category as well.
