# Celtic: Fans failing to get excited about links to Robert Gumny

**Celtic are preparing to table a £6m bid for Lech Poznan’s Polish right-back Robert Gumny, as reported by the print edition of the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html) and tweeted by [@CelticBible](https://twitter.com/CelticBible).**

According to [celtsarehere.com](https://celtsarehere.com/celtic-preparing-6m-bid-for-talented-defender-reports/), the Hoops had been monitoring the 21-year-old right-back for some time as a possible replacement for the exit-bound Mikael Lustig and Jeremy Toljan, who have both since left Celtic Park.

Also, the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/celtic-transfer-latest-robert-gumny-18922395) claimed that Brendan Rodgers and his scouting team had viewed Gumny as a possible signing before the former Hoops manager left the club to take charge at Leicester City.

The defender has been a [regular presence in the Lech Poznan first team](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/robert-gumny/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/353826) for the last couple of seasons after a [loan spell at Podbeskidzie](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/robert-gumny/transfers/spieler/353826) in 2016/17.

Gumny made [20 appearances in total for his club last season, scoring once](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/robert-gumny/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/353826), and has featured in [four league games in the early weeks of the current Ekstraklasa campaign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/robert-gumny/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/353826).

Celtic currently have [only one natural right-back in their first team squad in Anthony Ralston (via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/startseite/verein/371) and he has featured [just twice so far this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anthony-ralston/leistungsdaten/spieler/388171), with Neil Lennon more regularly opting to start with new signing [Hatem Abd Elhamed](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hatem-abd-elhamed/leistungsdaten/spieler/176990) or [centre-back Kristoffer Ajer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kristoffer-ajer/leistungsdaten/spieler/328658) in the role.

These Celtic fans took to Twitter to give their reactions to the links with Gumny:

> Gumny is overrated, he hasn’t made progress for some time and there is no guarantee that a change of environment will change that. At the moment it doesn’t look much better than FIli, which you could probably take for 1m

> I can't see any truth in this. We'd never pay that much for someone with such poor stats. We've already signed a good RB so why would we spend so much on another RB when we desperately need a LB.
