# Celtic: Fans hit back at Lewis Morgan’s critics after his goal against Rennes

**Lewis Morgan was one of four players brought into Celtic’s starting line-up by Neil Lennon for last night’s Europa League clash against Rennes from the previous weekend’s win over Livingston, as per [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/celtic-vs-rennes/420540).**

The 23-year-old [left midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lewis-morgan/profil/spieler/311351) was making his [first appearance of the group stage](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lewis-morgan/leistungsdaten/spieler/311351) and started as the [spearhead of attack](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3252518) with [Odsonne Edouard rested](https://www.skysports.com/football/celtic-vs-rennes/420540).

Morgan repaid his manager’s faith by [scoring the opening goal](https://www.skysports.com/football/celtic-vs-rennes/420540) in the Hoops’ 3-1 win, [sweeping the ball to the Rennes net from James Forrest’s cross](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50489724) in the 21st minute, with [@CelticFC](https://twitter.com/celticfc/status/1200148669258973184?s=21) on Twitter notifying followers of the goal.

That was one of [three shots on target](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1427244/LiveStatistics/Europe-UEFA-Europa-League-2019-2020-Celtic-Rennes) that he had on the night, with [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50489724) reporter Tom English describing his performance as “excellent”.

Prior to the game, however, [many Celtic fans on Twitter](https://twitter.com/celticfc/status/1200120909908054016?s=21) lamented his inclusion in the starting line-up, with the 23-year-old having also faced criticism from ex-Hoops player Jackie McNamara (as per [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/didnt-do-a-lot-exclusive-mcnamara-claims-celtic-attacker-has-failed-to-repay-lennon-faith/)) and [a number of Hoops supporters](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premier/celtic-fans-slate-lewis-morgan-on-clubs-twitter-post/) earlier in the season.

Following his goal against Rennes, these Celtic fans took to Twitter to gleefully hit back at Morgan’s detractors:
