# Celtic fans on Twitter praise Boyd who has been defending the club through the media

**Celtic will be hoping they can extend their lead at the top of the SPL when they take on Hibernian at home tonight.**

Brendan Rodgers’ men currently hold a six-point lead over second-placed Rangers and, heading into their fixture, former defender Tom Boyd has questioned the standard of officiating in Scotland.

“When I watch games, Celtic’s in particular, they are not offering protection of Celtic players,” Boyd said at a Premier Sports event ([via Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/tom-boyd-insists-celtic-players-13952990)). “I’ve seen two waist-high challenges on Edouard this season and neither was deemed to be a foul. That’s not acceptable. There is something way wrong with the standard of officiating just now.”

Boyd, who signed for Celtic from Chelsea on this day 27 years ago, certainly raises a fair point with not just this season, but also the previous one being campaigns where the Bhoys have been on the receiving end of some terrible challenges.

On a more positive note, here are some reactions from Celtic supporters celebrating the signing anniversary of their ex-player…

> Not bad got big Boyd for Cascarino, Good bit of business, And the big man bleeds green

> Great servant to the club. Even now as an ambassador of Celtic he is a top bloke, never a bad word to say about the club unlike some other ex players.
