# Celtic: Fans pleased with Jonathan Afolabi’s loan move to Dunfermline

**A number of Celtic fans have been reacting to the news that young striker Jonathan Afolabi has gone out on loan for the remainder of the season.**

The 20-year-old will spend the rest of 2019/20 at Championship side Dunfermline, who confirmed the loan deal on their official website [dafc.co.uk](https://dafc.co.uk/story.php?t=Jonathan_Afolabi_signs_for_Pars&ID=11697) on Monday, and Celtic’s Twitter channel [@CelticFC](https://twitter.com/celticfc/status/1221788883010097158?s=21) later relayed the news to fans of the club.

Following his impressive displays for the Republic of Ireland at last summer’s European Under-19 Championship, when he was named in [UEFA’s Team of the Tournament](https://www.uefa.com/under19/news/newsid=2617459.html?iv=true), the Hoops [signed Afolabi from Southampton](https://www.celticfc.net/news/16676) despite him [never having played a first-team game at St Mary’s](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-afolabi/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/444209).

It is a pattern that continued for the youngster at Celtic, where he [never managed to even make the bench](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-afolabi/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/444209) in a senior competitive match, and [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-multiple-clubs-keen-on-celtic-attacker-for-19-20-lennon-now-willing-to-let-go/) claimed last week that several teams in the lower reaches of the English Football League had been hoping to strike a deal for him, with the 20-year-old indicating a desire to play first-team football.

After Afolabi’s loan to Dunfermline was confirmed, these Celtic fans took to Twitter to give their views on the move:

> Another brilliant bit of transfer business…. Out of interest – how many of these projects do we sign and actually see in first team?
