# Celtic: Fans praise Jock Stein on anniversary of former manager’s appointment

**Celtic fans were praising Jock Stein on the anniversary of the legendary figure’s appointment as manager of the club.**

On this day 55 years ago, Stein took over from [Jim McGrory](https://www.soccerbase.com/teams/team.sd?team_id=512&teamTabs=managers) and went on to have a monumental impact for the Glasgow outfit. The Scotsman won a mammoth 509 games from 728 fixtures, losing a mere 102. However, his time is best remembered for the incredible number of trophies he won at Celtic Park [(via Soccerbase)](https://www.soccerbase.com/managers/manager.sd?manager_id=755).

One fan labelled him a ‘world-renowned legend’.

> How blessed our club was to have such a world renowned Legend as our manager.

The former Dunfermline Athletic man won a staggering 26 major honours, including the 1966/1967 European Cup. It was the first time the side lifted the continental title and Celtic remain the only Scottish side to have won it [(via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jock-stein/erfolge/trainer/12321). Supporters were left lavishing the figure with praise as they took to Twitter to celebrate the anniversary. Here is a selection of tweets from the Bhoys faithful:
