# Celtic: Fans react to throwback to Martin O’Neill’s final game in charge in 2005

**A lot of Celtic fans were discussing Martin O’Neill’s final game in charge of the club back on this day in 2005, following a video posted by the club on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1265959092046245888?s=20).**

The match saw the Hoops come away with victory against Dundee United thanks to a goal from Alan Thompson, per[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/startseite/verein/371/saison_id/2003), in the 2005 Scottish Cup final. It was the only trophy the Hoops won that season after they [agonisingly missed out on the league title](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/32838481).

Martin O’Neill goes down in history as [one of the best managers at the club](https://www.thecelticwiki.com/page/O%27Neill%2C+Martin) and his statistics prove this. He has the highest win percentage of any manager in the club’s history, via [fitbastats](https://www.fitbastats.com/celtic/manager_records.php), with 75% as he managed to win 213 games out of his 282 in charge. This is a great record in any division and it helped him to win three league titles and four domestic cups whilst he was at the club, per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-oneill/erfolge/trainer/176).

However, juding by the replies to the club’s recent tweet, the fact that he didn’t win the league in his last season remains as a painful memory in some fans’ eyes.

Alan Thompson received a notable mention from some Celtic fans, with some calling him a ‘legend’. The midfielder made 207 appearances for the Bhoys across seven years and scored 51 goals for the club, per [Soccerbase](https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=7899). He also won his fair share of silverware during his career in Scotland which included four league titles, one Scottish League Cup and three Scottish Cups, per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alan-thompson/erfolge/spieler/3485).

Here is what these Hoops fans had to say following the post about the 2005 cup final:
