# Celtic: Fans unhappy with James Forrest against Motherwell despite adding yet another assist

**Despite seeing their team win a [fifth Premiership game in a row](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/spielplandatum/verein/371) on Wednesday night to [maintain their seven-point lead](https://www.skysports.com/scottish-premier-table) at the top of the table, a number of Celtic fans aired their displeasure with the performance of James Forrest, with one supporter calling him “[shocking](https://twitter.com/ClaireB_97/status/1225164908779704321?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1225164908779704321&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.footballtransfertavern.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost-new.php)“.**

The 28-year-old had been a target of criticism during the season from some fans of the Hoops, with his display in the derby defeat to Rangers in December [being castigated](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premier/celtic/celtic-fans-fume-at-james-forrests-invisible-display-vs-rangers/) shortly after [a few supporters raised their concerns](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premier/celtic/celtic-some-fans-voice-their-concerns-about-james-forrests-recent-form/) about the standard of his performances, prompting manager Neil Lennon to defend him publicly after the recent win over Hamilton (as per [The Scottish Sun](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/5238192/celtic-news-james-forrest-neil-lennon-critics/)).

Forrest was again the subject of less than charitable scrutiny in Wednesday’s 4-0 win at Motherwell, with Amy Canavan of [Read Celtic](https://readceltic.com/2020/02/06/celtic-player-ratings-motherwell-a-3/) feeling that he had “a really quiet game” overall, while [67hailhail.com](https://www.67hailhail.com/news/player-ratings-motherwell-0-4-celtic/) writer David Walton questioned his distribution, saying that his “final ball could do with improving”.

Despite that criticism, the right winger [provided the pass that led to Callum McGregor’s goal](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51290578) at Fir Park, his [19th assist of the season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-forrest/leistungsdaten/spieler/84992) and [third in the last four games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-forrest/leistungsdaten/spieler/84992). However, that goal contribution and enhancement of a fine record for the campaign did not spare him some scathing reviews from these Celtic fans on Twitter regarding his overall performance:

> Been impressed by James Forrest’s 3rd touch. The 1st & 2nd isn’t so good though.
