**Former Celtic manager Ronny Deila has been confirmed as the new coach of Major League Soccer club New York City FC.**

The MLS outfit announced the appointment of the 44-year-old on their official website [nycfc.com](https://www.nycfc.com/post/2020/01/06/ronny-deila-named-new-york-city-fc-head-coach), having [left Norwegian side Valerenga](https://www.nycfc.com/post/2020/01/06/ronny-deila-named-new-york-city-fc-head-coach) to take up his new post on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.

Deila had two seasons in charge of Celtic from [2014 to 2016](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ronny-deila/stationen/trainer/7537), [winning the Premiership in both of his campaigns at Parkhead](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ronny-deila/erfolge/trainer/7537) as well as the [Scottish League Cup in 2015](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/31785677).

He won [76 of his 118 matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ronny-deila/leistungsdatenDetail/trainer/7537/verein_id/371/datum_zu/2014-06-06/datum_ab/2016-05-16) in charge of the Hoops for a 64.4% win rate and claimed [2.12 points per game](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ronny-deila/leistungsdatenDetail/trainer/7537/verein_id/371/datum_zu/2014-06-06/datum_ab/2016-05-16) during his time in Glasgow.

However, Celtic suffered some sobering European defeats during Deila’s tenure, with Champions League play-off exits to [Maribor](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28927666) and [Malmo](https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/aug/26/celtic-champions-league-exit-ronny-deila) and a [bottom-placed finish in the 2015/16 Europa League group stage](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/34940054). His Hoops team also [lost out to Rangers](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36008631) in the 2016 Scottish Cup semi-finals.

Despite those disappointments, many Celtic fans on Twitter have wished the Norwegian well in his new job with New York City FC. Here are some of the responses from the Hoops faithful, with one fan hoping Deila has a reunion with his former club in the next few months:
