# Celtic: Frank McAvennie backs Frank Lampard to be next manager

**Frank McAvennie has backed Frank Lampard to be the next permanent manager at Celtic after John Kennedy was appointed in temporary charge.**

As per [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-lampard-stance-on-taking-over-at-celtic-revealed/), the former Derby County and Chelsea boss is reportedly open to taking up the position in the summer, although he will resist the chance to put his own name forward.

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/just-imagine-lampard-could-get-celtic-job-go-head-to-head-with-gerrard-at-rangers-mcavennie/), former Celtic striker McAvennie has backed Lampard to be a success at his old club should he be offered the job:

*“Can you imagine Frank Lampard comes in at Celtic and the first Old Firm game next year with the fans back in?”*

*“Steven Gerrard against Frank Lampard. It would be different class.*

*“I like Frank, he would bring in his own guy in Jody Morris. He did great at Derby, a great club.*

*“He was superb in the first year at Chelsea and he couldn’t buy any players. I think the problem was that he bought players that looked good in other teams but didn’t fit with what he was doing.*

*“Now they’ve got the old guy Giroud back scoring goals.* *He went too much on youngsters.*

*“Chelsea were a good team when he was there but I don’t know if Celtic would be the club.*

*“Stevie Clarke, Roberto Martinez, Eddie Howe and Lampard. Any of them would do me well.”*

### Lampard could be a good fit for Celtic

Lampard may well be a good fit at Parkhead, given that he already has the experience of managing a big club before in Chelsea.

He managed to guide the Stamford Bridge faithful to a very impressive [fourth](https://thefishy.co.uk/leaguetable.php?table=1&season=17) spot in the Premier League table in his first season in charge at the London club, therefore qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, despite having to deal with a transfer ban, selling arguably his best player in Eden Hazard to Real Madrid and blending in youngsters.

There is also the quite mouth-watering prospect of him going up against his old England international teammate in Steven Gerrard at Rangers, which would surely get him even more fired up.

Nonetheless, Lampard may be a potential candidate to watch out for come the time that the Hoops decide to make their permanent appointment.
