# Celtic: George Baldock now Hoops’ top target

**Sheffield United right-back George Baldock is now Celtic’s top target, according to [Scott Burns of The Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/carl-starfelt-gets-celtic-start-24587439).**

### The Lowdown: Baldock links

A number of Celtic officials will know plenty about Baldock. He was [linked](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/george-baldock-profiled-celtic-target-16263721) with a move to Parkhead back in 2019 when Neil Lennon was in charge.

[Lennon spoke with Baldock, who was keen on a Celtic Park switch](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/george-baldock-profiled-celtic-target-16263721), however, he remained with the Blades.

The [£10,000-a-week](https://footballleaguefc.com/sheffield-united-2020-21-player-wages/) full-back has been linked with a move to Scotland again this summer, with [Ange Postecoglou giving the green light to a transfer](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/sheffield-united-celtic-set-to-adopt-a-familiar-tactic-in-their-pursuit-of-george-baldock-3301325).

The Hoops boss has [watched footage](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/sheffield-united-celtic-set-to-adopt-a-familiar-tactic-in-their-pursuit-of-george-baldock-3301325) of the 28-year-old, [likened to George Best by BBC pundit Garth Crooks back in 2019](https://bladesnews.com/blog/bbc-pundit-compares-sheffield-united-star-to-george-best-after-norwich-strike/), and it seems as if he is now the club’s main target.

### The Latest: Burns’ claim

[Burns](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/carl-starfelt-gets-celtic-start-24587439) shared a story on the Hoops after their move for centre-back [Carl Starfelt was announced on Wednesday evening](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1417901463712505865).

[The Daily Record reporter](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/carl-starfelt-gets-celtic-start-24587439) suggested that Postecoglou has now made a right-back his top priority and Baldock is at the top of the list when it comes to right-back targets.

It remains to be seen if Sheffield United will entertain any move, however, the defender has [less than 12 months left on his Bramall Lane deal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/george-baldock/profil/spieler/146690).

### The Verdict: Needed ASAP

A new right-back is needed as soon as possible, to put it lightly. Postecoglou has just [Anthony Ralston](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anthony-ralston/leistungsdaten/spieler/388171) and [Lee O’Connor](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lee-oconnor/leistungsdaten/spieler/366681) as options in that area at the moment, with the latter yet to feature for the Hoops in any competition.

[Jeremie Frimpong](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55814273) and [Hatem Elhamed](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/hatem-abd-elhameds-celtic-exit-23478182) left earlier this year, and [along with the money the Hoops received for Kristoffer Ajer](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11748/12356882/brentford-transfer-news-celtic-defender-kristoffer-ajer-signs-for-premier-league-newcomers), you’d expect there would be funds for a new right-back.

The Blades could make it difficult, but if Postecoglou wants Baldock, the Hoops must make their move over the coming days.
