# Celtic: Hoops failed with late Trai Hume move

**Celtic were linked with a late swoop for Linfield teenager Trai Hume on deadline day, [Belfast Live](https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/linfield-teenager-trai-hume-staying-21450184) report.**

### The Lowdown: Three in

Dominic McKay was a busy man on his first deadline day as Celtic CEO.

Leigh Griffiths, Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard all completed [moves](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/celtic-look-transfer-deadline-day-24881212) away from Parkhead, while [Georgios Giakoumakis](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1432750379444445184), [Filipe Jota](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1432784267285827589) and [Cameron Carter-Vickers](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1432839838974287875) all finalised Glasgow moves with hours to spare.

It seems as if McKay may have had his eye on a fourth late addition for the Hoops, though, going off reports late on Tuesday evening.

### The Latest: Hume links

According to [Belfast Live](https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/linfield-teenager-trai-hume-staying-21450184), Linfield turned down a number of big-money offers for Hume in excess of £100,000, who can play as a [right-back, centre-back or centre-midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trai-hume/profil/spieler/515544).

Celtic and English League One side Lincoln City were name-checked with the late interest in the [5 foot 9](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trai-hume/profil/spieler/515544) teenager, who is [reportedly](https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/linfield-teenager-trai-hume-staying-21450184) under contract until 2023.

### The Verdict: Another Scales?

Celtic recently sealed a [move](https://www.celticfc.com/news/2021/august/Celtic-reach-agreement-to-sign-Liam-Scales/) for versatile defender [Liam Scales](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liam-scales/profil/spieler/439497) from Shamrock Rovers, so it’ll be interesting to see if the Hoops go back in for Hume further down the line, with there clearly being a focus from McKay on up and coming defenders.

He’s been [described](https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/linfield-teenager-trai-hume-staying-21450184) as one of the Irish League’s hottest properties, similar to [Scales](https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/soccer/arid-40338089.html) earlier in the summer.

Hume’s versatility could attract Celtic in the next transfer window, as it did with [Scales](https://theathletic.co.uk/2782217/2021/08/24/where-celtic-need-to-strengthen-to-support-the-fine-start-to-the-postecoglou-era/?article_source=search&search_query=kieran%20devlin), so it could be a name to keep an eye on over the next 12 months.
