# Celtic: Hoops linked with Ciaron Brown

**Celtic and rivals Rangers have been linked with a January swoop for Cardiff City defender Ciaron Brown in a report from [Football League World](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/exclusive-cardiff-city-open-contract-talks-with-player-amid-rangers-and-celtic-transfer-interest/).**

### The Lowdown: Brown profiled

Brown, on [£880-a-week](https://salarysport.com/football/player/ciaron-brown/#:~:text=Ciaron%20Brown%20earns%20%C2%A3880,contract%20expires%20June%2030%2C%202021.), is 23 years of age and is a centre-back who can also play as a [left-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ciaron-brown/profil/spieler/611845).

The [Northern Ireland international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ciaron-brown/profil/spieler/611845) has made just [13](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ciaron-brown/leistungsdaten/spieler/611845) appearances for Cardiff during his [three-and-a-half-year](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ciaron-brown/profil/spieler/611845) stay and has mostly plied his trade with Livingston in [three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ciaron-brown/transfers/spieler/611845) separate loan spells.

He’s got [30](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ciaron-brown/leistungsdaten/spieler/611845) Scottish Premiership appearances under his belt, and it seems as if he could be a January target for Dominic McKay and Ange Postecoglou.

### The Latest: Celtic interest

[Football League World](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/exclusive-cardiff-city-open-contract-talks-with-player-amid-rangers-and-celtic-transfer-interest/) shared a story on Friday regarding Brown. They were informed by sources that Cardiff are looking to extend the defender’s contract in Wales with talks underway.

The [report](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/exclusive-cardiff-city-open-contract-talks-with-player-amid-rangers-and-celtic-transfer-interest/) adds that both Celtic and Rangers are circling for Brown, and should he not agree on new terms, could make a pre-contract move in the winter window as he is into the final [12 months](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/exclusive-cardiff-city-open-contract-talks-with-player-amid-rangers-and-celtic-transfer-interest/) of his Bluebirds deal.

### The Verdict: Avoid?

Celtic managed to bring in [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371) defensive additions over the summer, [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371) of which can play at centre-back.

Postecoglou also will have [Christopher Jullien](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kader/verein/371) to call upon when he returns from injury, so the Hoops seem to be fairly well-stocked in that department.

On that basis, perhaps a potential January move for Brown could be put on the back burner and other areas such as in the centre of midfield should be more of a priority after losing [three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371) in that department and only bringing in [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371).
