# Celtic: Hoops source shares off-field update regarding Eddie Howe links

**Eddie Howe won’t be able to take former Bournemouth colleague Richard Hughes with him to Celtic Park, according to a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/celtic-put-off-by-hughes-record/).**

They have been informed by a Celtic source that the Hoops are [‘wary of appointing Bournemouth technical director Hughes after Nick Hammond’s wretched rein’](https://www.footballinsider247.com/celtic-put-off-by-hughes-record/) – 12 words which could have major implications on the club’s pursuit of Howe.

The 43-year-old wanted to bring Hughes with him to Glasgow [during talks](https://www.footballinsider247.com/celtic-put-off-by-hughes-record/) with the Celtic board, but it looks as if the Hoops are [closing in on Manchester City’s Fergal Harkin](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-celtic-close-to-appointing-harkin-after-new-talks-and-hughes-latest/) to fill the newly-created director of football role.

Hammond [left his role](https://www.celticfc.com/news/2021/march/Nick-Hammond-leaves-Celtic/) as football operations chief last month and it doesn’t look as if Celtic want to bring in a replacement for him any time soon.

In our view, this development could be massive in regards to Howe’s possible Parkhead switch. Celtic don’t look like bowing to his demands regarding a reunion with Hughes, which may possibly scupper the prospective deal completely.

[Reliable reporter Alan Nixon](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1386261818197299201) has stated that Howe also wants to bring in his own coaches, but they are still in work with Bournemouth at this moment in time. [Reports](https://the72.co.uk/232848/major-stumbling-block-emerges-in-eddie-howe-to-celtic-club-could-be-priced-out-by-bournemouth/) have named Cherries coaches Stephen Purches and Simon Weatherstone as men wanted by the 43-year-old, but it doesn’t look like Hughes will be moving north any time soon.

That could possibly be the deal-breaker which ends Celtic’s chances of giving Howe the manager’s job.
