The 29-year-old retains hope that Celtic could have continued to maintain their interest in him, saying: “I’m not sure if a \[Celtic\] scout came over or has come over \[recently\], but I won’t give up hope. I know that I have a certain age, but I won’t give up hope that such a moment could come.” \[as per [Medio Tempo](https://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/seleccion-mayor/aprovechar-llamados-seleccion-pecado-isaac-brizuela), via [Football Scotland](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/mexico-winger-isaac-brizuela-reveals-16884671)\]. ![](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/THE-BREAKDOWN.png) Brizuela has been playing with current club Deportivo Guadalajara, [also known as Chivas](https://web.archive.org/web/20141006131306/https://www.fifa.com/classicfootball/clubs/club=539/index.html), [since the start of 2015](https://www.futboltotal.com.mx/2015/01/chiapas-2-1-chivas-presion-rojiblanca/). In that time, he has made [172 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isaac-brizuela/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/121166) for the club, scoring [16 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isaac-brizuela/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/121166) (0.09 per game) and registering [23 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isaac-brizuela/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/121166) (0.13 per game). The 29-year-old has won [two Mexican league titles](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isaac-brizuela/erfolge/spieler/121166) in his career and also [helped Deportivo Guadalajara to CONCACAF Champions League glory in 2018](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isaac-brizuela/erfolge/spieler/121166). He plays mainly as a right winger but has fulfilled numerous roles in his career, playing on the right and left flanks as a winger and a full-back, in addition to playing as a striker and central attacking midfielder. \[[via TransferMarkt.co.uk](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isaac-brizuela/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/121166)\] Despite regularly playing in advanced positions, Brizuela does not have a huge goal involvements record – he has never scored more than six goals in a single season, while last term’s assists tally of 10 was by far his highest. \[[via TransferMarkt.co.uk](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isaac-brizuela/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/121166)\] Celtic haven’t struggled for goals from midfield or wide areas this season, with right winger James Forrest scoring [six in 12 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/371/reldata/%262019/plus/1) (0.5 per game), Ryan Christie netting [eight times in 13 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/371/reldata/%262019/plus/1) (0.62 per game) from attacking midfield, left winger Mikey Johnston scoring [three times in 10 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/371/reldata/%262019/plus/1) (0.3 per game) and right midfielder Jonny Hayes netting [twice in just three appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/371/reldata/%262019/plus/1) (0.67 per game). In terms of setting up goals, Forrest and Christie have [five assists each](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/371/reldata/%262019/plus/1) (0.42 and 0.38 per game respectively), while Johnston has provided [four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/371/reldata/%262019/plus/1) (0.4 per game) so far in 2019/20. ![](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Verdict.png) Brizuela [turned 29 at the end of August](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isaac-brizuela/profil/spieler/121166) and has never been a consistently reliable source of goals, either in terms of scoring them or setting them up. Celtic already have a prolific right winger in Forrest who has been in fine scoring form this season and also sets up plenty of goals, while younger players like Johnston ([20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mikey-johnston/profil/spieler/297257)) and Christie ([24](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-christie/profil/spieler/188077)) have also posted impressive goal involvement returns in recent weeks. Brizuela may still be hopeful of getting a move to Celtic, but the Hoops don’t seem to have any great need to bring in a winger approaching his 30s when they already have younger, more prolific options. ***Celtic fans, do you think Brizuela would be an effective addition if the Hoops were to renew their interest in him?
