# Celtic: Jack Hendry linked with two Scottish Premiership clubs

**Celtic defender Jack Hendry is being eyed by two other Premiership clubs with a view to a potential move for the 24-year-old.**

The [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/jack-hendry-transfer-fight-celtic-18972539?_ga=2.198484591.15466805.1566219065-1194075882.1560761803) reported that Motherwell and Kilmarnock are both keeping tabs on the player, who has fallen out of favour at Celtic under Neil Lennon.

According to the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/jack-hendry-transfer-fight-celtic-18972539?_ga=2.198484591.15466805.1566219065-1194075882.1560761803), Hendry is “[frustrated](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/jack-hendry-transfer-fight-celtic-18972539?_ga=2.198484591.15466805.1566219065-1194075882.1560761803)” at his lack of game-time with the Hoops and had the opportunity to sign for English Championship side Hull earlier this month.

However, the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/jack-hendry-transfer-fight-celtic-18972539?_ga=2.198484591.15466805.1566219065-1194075882.1560761803) added that Celtic stalled on Hull’s offer and subsequently asked for a higher fee, by which stage the Tigers had already turned their attention to another transfer target.

Hendry was brought to Celtic from Dundee in January 2018 by Brendan Rodgers, signing on a four-and-a-half-year deal for the highest transfer fee received in Dundee’s history. \[[via BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42890313)\]

He played [11 times in the Premiership in his first half-season at Celtic](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-hendry/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/363223) but featured in only [four league games last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-hendry/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/363223) and [15 in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-hendry/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/363223).

He has not been given a single minute of first-team action under Lennon, as noted by the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/jack-hendry-transfer-fight-celtic-18972539?_ga=2.198484591.15466805.1566219065-1194075882.1560761803), with [his last appearance coming six months ago](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-hendry/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/363223/plus/0/saison/2018/wettbewerb/SC1/verein/371) in a [4-1 win over Motherwell at the end of Rodgers’ time in charge](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/premiership/celtic-4-1-motherwell-controversy-as-celtic-continue-winning-streak-1-4878401).

With Jozo Simunovic and Kristoffer Ajer playing [75 games between them last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/371/plus/0?reldata=%262018), and Lennon signing two more centre-backs in [Christopher Jullien](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48770628) and [Hatem Abd Elhamed](https://www.celticfc.net/news/16503) over the summer, Hendry’s prospects of playing for Celtic in 2019/20 did not look promising when the campaign began in the Champions League qualifiers last month.

Even when some of those defenders have not been available, Lennon has preferred to [go with midfielder Nir Bitton at centre-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nir-bitton/leistungsdaten/spieler/129788) instead of giving Hendry a chance.

The 24-year-old has come in for unfavourable assessment from some pundits, with Chris Sutton writing in the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/mismanagement-celtic-industrial-scale-its-13097789) that “[I feel sorry for Jack Hendry](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/mismanagement-celtic-industrial-scale-its-13097789)“, while [BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0079g4q)‘s Michael Stewart claimed that Hearts’ John Souttar was a better defender \[[via This Is Futbol](https://thisisfutbol.com/2018/08/blogs/scottish-premier-league/stewart-tears-into-hendry-after-celtic-elimination/)\].

![](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Verdict.png)

Celtic only conceded [20 league goals last season](https://www.skysports.com/scottish-premier-table/2018) with Simunovic and Ajer as [two of their three most-used centre-backs](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/371/plus/0?reldata=%262018) (along with the [now-departed Dedryck Boyata](https://www.herthabsc.de/de/intern/verpflichtung-dedryck-boyata/page/16026--17-17-.html)), so it is understandable that Lennon has trusted them more than Hendry.

Also, with two new centre-backs signed over the summer and Bitton being chosen to start there ahead of Hendry on occasion, it seems quite clear that the ex-Dundee man is not in Lennon’s plans.

With Simunovic, Ajer, Jullien, Abd Elhamed and Bitton [all able to play at centre-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371), Celtic seem well covered in that position, so allowing Hendry to leave shouldn’t affect them much and would enable the player to revive his flagging career.
