# Celtic: Japan’s Kyogo Furuhashi U-turn

**Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi has now been [selected](https://twitter.com/craigcelt/status/1443930789842927618?s=21) in Japan’s squad for the upcoming international break.**

### The Lowdown: Furuhashi’s knee injury

Furuhashi, who has scored [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kyogo-furuhashi/leistungsdaten/spieler/489463) times in [10](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kyogo-furuhashi/leistungsdaten/spieler/489463) Celtic appearances, has only just returned from a [knee injury](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kyogo-furuhashi/leistungsdaten/spieler/489463) which he sustained playing for Japan during the previous international break.

The [£4.86m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371) summer signing [started](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kyogo-furuhashi/leistungsdaten/spieler/489463) against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday but didn’t manage to play the entire [90 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc_bayer-04-leverkusen/index/spielbericht/3651693) in a [4-0](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc_bayer-04-leverkusen/index/spielbericht/3651693) defeat. He looks [set](https://twitter.com/scotlandsky/status/1443972895181520898?s=21) to be available against Aberdeen on Sunday, and it now appears as if he could have a busy week away with his country.

### The Latest: Japan U-turn

Japan [named](https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-soccer-japan-idUKKBN2GP07L) their squad for World Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and Australia earlier this week, with Furuhashi initially [not included](https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-soccer-japan-idUKKBN2GP07L) due to injury.

However, [@CraigCelt](https://twitter.com/craigcelt/status/1443930789842927618?s=21) shared a press release on Twitter on Friday afternoon, with news emerging that the 26-year-old will now head off to represent his country following this weekend’s action.

### The Verdict: Not ideal…

Celtic and Ange Postecoglou could have done without Japan’s U-turn, in all honesty.

Furuhashi has only just returned from an injury which kept him out of [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kyogo-furuhashi/leistungsdaten/spieler/489463) Hoops fixtures. Initial fears were that he would miss [seven](https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/sport/19571826.kyogo-furuhashi-injury-latest-celtic-star-set-miss-seven-games/) games, so he has returned quicker than expected.

The last thing everyone associated with the Hoops will want is for the 26-year-old to feature heavily in both of Japan’s qualifiers and push his fitness to the limit, thus depriving the club of his services if his body breaks down again.
