# Celtic: Jordon Ibe wanted on loan by Hoops

**Celtic are hoping to add to their wide attacking options with a potential move for Bournemouth’s Jordon Ibe.**

[The Scottish Sun](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/4608757/bournemouth-jordon-ibe-celtic-transfer-news/) reported that the Hoops want to sign the 23-year-old on a loan deal before the Premiership transfer window [closes on September 2nd](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/transfer-window-2019-open-dates-16370467).

However, according to [The Scottish Sun](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/4608757/bournemouth-jordon-ibe-celtic-transfer-news/), Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is reconsidering whether to make the winger available for loan, with the Cherries’ wide options lessened by long-term injury to Arnaut Danjuma.

Ibe featured regularly in Jurgen Klopp’s first season at Liverpool in 2015/16, playing [33 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordon-ibe/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/195652) under the German, but was [sold to Bournemouth for a then club-record £15m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36800117) the following summer.

In [88 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordon-ibe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/195652) for the Cherries, the winger has a rather underwhelming return of [five goals and nine assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordon-ibe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/195652). That works out at a goal per 17.6 games and an assist every 9.78 games.

Ibe’s passing success rate of [78%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/105797/History/Jordon-Ibe) last season was his [worst return in a league campaign](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/105797/History/Jordon-Ibe), while he averaged just [13.2 passes per game](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/105797/History/Jordon-Ibe) and [started just nine Premier League matches in 2018/19](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/105797/History/Jordon-Ibe) for Bournemouth, for whom he was an [unused substitute against Sheffield United](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49215986) last weekend.

He [mainly operates on the right flank](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordon-ibe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/195652), the [position occupied at Celtic by James Forrest](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371), who [scored 18 goals and supplied 20 assists in 56 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/371/reldata/%262018/plus/1) last season, averaging a goal every 3.11 games and an assist every 2.8 games.

Forrest, the reigning [SPFL Player of the Year](https://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/17659658.celtic-winger-james-forrest-completes-personal-treble-by-winning-ladbrokes-premiership-player-of-the-year//), already has [three goals and three assists from seven appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-forrest/leistungsdaten/spieler/84992) this season (a goal and an assist per 2.33 games).

The 28-year-old had a passing success rate of [81.7% for Celtic in last season’s Europa League](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/81481/History/James-Forrest) and an impressive [90.9% for Scotland in their UEFA Nations League campaign](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/81481/History/James-Forrest), indicating that he is far more composed on the ball than Ibe, as well as having a much better goal return.

Ibe [can also play on the left-wing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordon-ibe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/195652), the [position where Mikey Johnston](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371) has enjoyed a fine start to the campaign for Celtic.

The 20-year-old has featured [five times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mikey-johnston/leistungsdaten/spieler/297257) this season, [scoring twice and providing three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mikey-johnston/leistungsdaten/spieler/297257) to go with the [five goals and one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mikey-johnston/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/297257) he supplied in [23 appearances last term](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mikey-johnston/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/297257).

Ibe’s goal contribution during his three years at Bournemouth has been desperately disappointing and pales in comparison with that of Forrest, while Johnston looks set to leave the ex-Liverpool man trailing in his wake also if he can continue his early season output.

Even if either of those Celtic wingers were unavailable, they have [ample cover on both flanks](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371), and in recent months Ibe has not looked like a player who would greatly enhance the Hoops’ wide attacking options.
