# Celtic: Journalist makes Antoine Semenyo claim

**Journalist Dean Jones has made a transfer claim regarding Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo, who is wanted by Celtic, [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/87973196-celtic-will-have-to-offer-a-big-package-to-sign-antoine-semenyo-from-bristol-city) report.**

### The Lowdown: Semenyo links

The Hoops have recently been credited with an [interest](https://www.bristolworld.com/sport/football/bristol-city/celtic-send-scout-to-bristol-city-as-the-glasgow-club-join-list-of-antoine-semenyo-suitors-3565245) in the Robins forward, who will be entering the final 12 months of his [contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antoine-semenyo/profil/spieler/583255) in the summer.

Celtic sent senior scout [Craig Strachan](https://www.bristolworld.com/sport/football/bristol-city/celtic-send-scout-to-bristol-city-as-the-glasgow-club-join-list-of-antoine-semenyo-suitors-3565245) to watch the 22-year-old in action last week, with the forward netting his [fifth](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antoine-semenyo/leistungsdaten/spieler/583255) Championship goal of the campaign in a 2-1 win over Reading.

The [£1.08m-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antoine-semenyo/profil/spieler/583255) man has contributed to [11](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antoine-semenyo/leistungsdaten/spieler/583255) second-tier goals in as many games in recent months, but it will take a lot more than that figure to bring the player to Scotland in the near future.

### The Latest: Jones’ comments

Jones, talking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/87973196-celtic-will-have-to-offer-a-big-package-to-sign-antoine-semenyo-from-bristol-city), had this to say on Semenyo and a possible transfer, revealing it would have to take a ‘big package’ for Celtic to secure his services.

> “He’s on a really good deal at Bristol City. In the last window, there were clubs inquiring about him, and they were told he would cost around £15 million. It’s going be a big package if they want to sign him.”

### The Verdict: Club record deal?

[Jones](https://www.givemesport.com/87973196-celtic-will-have-to-offer-a-big-package-to-sign-antoine-semenyo-from-bristol-city) revealed it would have cost any club around £15m for Bristol City to do business in the January window. Celtic have never paid more than [£10m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transferrekorde/verein/371) for a player in their history, but that could change if they seriously pursued Semenyo.

You’d expect that a £15m figure could come down slightly in the summer, should his contract situation remain the same, however, the Hoops may still have to make him their [most expensive signing of all time](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transferrekorde/verein/371) if they want to bring the forward to Celtic Park.

They may well be put off at Semenyo’s valuation, though, especially as they are already plotting to fork out a combined [£12.5m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12508514/celtic-hope-to-seal-permanent-jota-and-cameron-carter-vickers-deals) in the summer for loanees Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota.
