# Celtic: McManus claims Juranovic isn’t PL quality

**Pundit and former footballer Tam McManus has said that [Josip Juranovic](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/josip-juranovic/) isn’t at the level required to play in the Premier League, amid his impending Celtic exit.**

### The Lowdown: Juranovic set for Union Berlin medical

[BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64359096) has reported that the [Scottish Premiership](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premiership-news/) club have given Juranovic permission to undergo a medical with German Bundesliga side Union Berlin after agreeing a [£10m fee](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12791505/josip-juranovic-union-berlin-agree-10m-deal-to-sign-celtic-right-back) for the right-back’s services.

The 27-year-old has [played](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josip-juranovic/leistungsdaten/spieler/362977) 10 league matches for [Ange Postecoglou’s](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwj48YiW0Nn8AhWAh_0HHarMCrQQFnoECA4QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.footballtransfertavern.com%2Ftag%2Fange-postecoglou%2F&usg=AOvVaw16gTjw0yJWKlODEjqFQRpl) side this season, providing a goal and an assist as well as six appearances in the Champions League.

In the summer of 2021, the Croatian put pen to paper and [signed](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12386736/josip-juranovic-celtic-confirm-signing-of-croatia-right-back-on-a-five-year-deal) for the Bhoys, [featuring](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josip-juranovic/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/362977) 53 times for Celtic.

### The Latest: Juranovic isn’t Premier League level

Speaking on [PLZ Soccer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxd_vKro4_g), McManus raved about the business done by the Hoops and claimed that Juranovic isn’t good enough to be playing at a top Premier League side.

He stated: “I think that’ll be good business for Celtic. I thought £8-10m would be good business. I don’t think anybody’s going to pay more than that.

“There was talk of Premier League interest, I don’t think he’s that level – I don’t think he’s top-six/top-four England level.

“I think some Celtic fans maybe thought that they’d maybe get a higher fee. I think £8-10m is around about right.”

### The Verdict: Big cash injection for Celtic

£10m is quite the fee for Juranovic and he’ll certainly [rank highly](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/rekordabgaenge/verein/371) as one of Celtic’s most expensive exits in their history.

Celtic already had their replacement lined up when they [brought in](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12760951/celtic-transfer-news-alistair-johnston-joins-scottish-champions-amid-doubt-over-futures-of-josip-juranovic-and-giorgos-giakoumakis) Alistair Johnston, who has so far [played](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alistair-johnston/leistungsdaten/spieler/637446) three league games for the Hoops.

Johnston is [no rookie](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alistair-johnston/leistungsdaten/spieler/637446), though, as he amassed 77 appearances in MLS and has been capped 32 times by Canada, including three [matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alistair-johnston/nationalmannschaft/spieler/637446/wettbewerb_id/WM22) at the 2022 World Cup.

The Bhoys can reinvest that money gained from Juranovic into another area of the pitch, and amid [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/30778/12788262/giorgos-giakoumakis-celtic-accept-urawa-red-diamonds-bid-for-striker) reporting that Giorgos Giakoumakis has had a bid accepted from Urawa Red Diamonds, they could use the Juranovic funds to purchase target Cho Gue-Sung, whom they’ve been in talks with recently according to [reports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/36621/12783608/gue-sung-cho-celtic-in-talks-over-deal-rangers-monitoring-south-korea-striker).
