Celtic: O’Rourke delivers Juranovic transfer assessment

Journalist Peter O’Rourke has applauded Celtic for the fee they received for right-back Josip Juranovic.

The Lowdown: Juranovic joins Union Berlin

Just over a week ago, Ange Postecoglou’s side agreed to sell Juranovic to Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin.

The Scottish Premiership side sold the 27-year-old for a total of £10m, which means they made a £7.5m profit on the man they bought back in the summer of 2021.

This winter, Juranovic featured seven times for Croatia at the World Cup and picked up one assist throughout the tournament.

The Latest: Good business

O’Rourke praised Celtic for the amount they received from the full-back’s sale when speaking to GiveMeSport, and expects the Hoops to use that money to improve their squad.

He stated: “Although they will be sad to see Juranovic leave, they’ve got a good deal for him as well and they can maybe use that elsewhere.”

The Verdict: A great position to be in

We believe that Celtic are in a great position as far as their standing among the rest of the teams in Scotland is concerned.

One aspect of their campaign they’ll want to improve next season is their form in Europe, as in this year’s Champions League, Celtic failed to get past the group stage, finishing rock bottom of their group.

Pundit and former Celtic player Chris Sutton stuck up for the Hoops after they were eliminated from the tournament, praising their approach to games.

He wrote in The Daily Record: “Postecoglou is trying to implement a style and adopt a positive approach that can make Celtic better in Europe now and the future. He said they were going to try and play their way and they have done so.”

Our view is that Celtic need to use the money they’ve gained from the sale of the likes of Juranovic and use that to bring in players who will not only improve their squad, but fit the style of football that Postecoglou is implementing.

We’d suspect that Rangers will be looking to also add a number of new recruits in the near future, so there’s no time for Celtic to be taking their foot off the gas this season despite their strong lead in the league – and deals like Jurnaovic’s sale should give them the platform to do this in the summer.
