# Celtic: Leeds bids for Matthew Anderson rejected

**Celtic have rejected bids from Leeds United this summer for left-back Matthew Anderson, according to [Graham Smyth of the Yorkshire Evening Post](https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/sunderland-in-talks-to-sign-leeds-uniteds-niall-huggins-loan-exit-possible-for-ian-poveda-and-group-of-others-3351053).**

### The Lowdown: Hjelde move

It seems as if Leeds are set to sign one Celtic teenager, though, in Leo Hjelde.

The Whites were [monitoring](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56732009) the Norwegian before his loan move to Ross County and recently [agreed](https://twitter.com/StianWahl/status/1425548234680897548) on a price for the defender with the Hoops. Personal terms were reached before that, so it appears as if a move to Elland Road is [imminent](https://twitter.com/FotballNO/status/1427740694664335364).

However, Marcelo Bielsa’s side haven’t had the same luck when it comes to Anderson, who has been described as [‘the real deal’](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/leeds-united-matthew-anderson-tierney-20892884).

### The Latest: Bids turned down

[Smyth](https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/sunderland-in-talks-to-sign-leeds-uniteds-niall-huggins-loan-exit-possible-for-ian-poveda-and-group-of-others-3351053) shared a transfer update on Leeds on Wednesday afternoon and mentioned Anderson.

He claimed that Leeds made a number of attempts to sign the 17-year-old but saw bids rejected by Celtic.

Anderson, who has been at Celtic Park for just [over 12 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matthew-anderson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/719670), is [yet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matthew-anderson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/719670) to make his senior debut.

### The Verdict: Good news

Anderson has been tipped to potentially become the [‘next Kieran Tierney’](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/leeds-united-matthew-anderson-tierney-20892884), so it’s good to see Celtic are doing everything they can to keep hold of the youngster this summer.

It appeared to be different with Hjelde, as his representatives were [unhappy](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/celtic-transfer-rumours/celtic-leo-hjeldes-reps-unhappy-with-hoops/) with the Hoops, but as long as Anderson is content in Glasgow, there is no reason the club should be looking to sell at this moment in time.

The last thing Ange Postecoglou will want to see is multiple young talents walking out the door in one summer, so it looks like the Hoops have made the right call in rejecting advances for Anderson.
