# Celtic: Leeds make Matthew Anderson bid

**Leeds United have made a bid for Celtic left-back Matthew Anderson, according to [Graham Smyth of the Yorkshire Evening Post](https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/leeds-united-make-bid-for-real-deal-celtic-and-scotland-youth-international-left-back-3282379).**

### The Lowdown: Leeds’ Hjelde interest

Anderson isn’t the only Hoops youngster the Whites are keen on. They were after Leo Hjelde [last season prior to his Ross County loan spell](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56732009) and have been credited with an interest in the Norwegian recently.

Reports from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/leeds-united-open-talk-to-sign-next-van-dijk/) earlier this week suggested that Leeds are negotiating a deal for Hjelde, and it seems as if Anderson is also a firm target.

### The Latest: Anderson offer

Smyth shared the news on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/grahamsmyth/status/1407328400302391297?s=21) on Tuesday afternoon, revealing “Leeds United have made a bid for a Celtic defender” while sharing his article on the development.

That defender is [Anderson](https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/leeds-united-make-bid-for-real-deal-celtic-and-scotland-youth-international-left-back-3282379), who [signed a new professional deal with the Hoops last summer](https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/18556542.celtic-tie-new-contracts-highly-rated-academy-prospects-including-stephen-welsh-three-year-deal/).

No financial details of the bid were shared by [Smyth](https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/leeds-united-make-bid-for-real-deal-celtic-and-scotland-youth-international-left-back-3282379) or Celtic’s stance on whether they would be willing to part ways with the youngster this summer.

### The Verdict: A possible long-term blow?

Although [Anderson is yet to feature for the Hoops at senior level](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matthew-anderson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/719670), a move to Yorkshire could prove to be a big blow in the long run.

The 17-year-old was [tipped as the next Kieran Tierney last year](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/local-sport/blantyre-kid-tipped-top-after-21342129), and left-back is a position that Celtic are yet to really sort out following Tierney’s move to Arsenal.

[Greg Taylor](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/greg-taylor/leistungsdaten/spieler/362562) and loanee [Diego Laxalt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diego-laxalt/leistungsdaten/spieler/230552) battled it out to be first choice last season, with [Boli Bolingoli set for a Parkhead return this summer](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/boli-bolingoli-set-celtic-return-24332900).

Anderson may have had the chance to play [senior football with Celtic Colts in the Lowland League next season](https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/sport/19390083.celtic-rangers-colts-lowland-league-fixtures-confirmed-following-controversial-plan/), however, it seems as if a move to Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds could be a possibility following Smyth’s update.
