# Celtic: Liam Scales earns Republic of Ireland call up

**Celtic defender Liam Scales has been [called up](https://twitter.com/AnthonyRJoseph/status/1446069484087873545) to the Republic of Ireland’s senior squad.**

### The Lowdown: Scales at Celtic

The 23-year-old was one of [12](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371) summer signings to arrive at Parkhead, costing the club [£540,000](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371) from Shamrock Rovers.

The [versatile](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liam-scales/profil/spieler/439497) defender, labelled as [‘quick’](https://thecelticstar.com/high-praise-for-celtics-irish-new-bhoy-liam-scales/) by Graham Gartland, is [yet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liam-scales/leistungsdaten/spieler/439497) to start for the Hoops, though, with his [only](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liam-scales/leistungsdaten/spieler/439497) appearance coming against Raith Rovers in the League Cup.

He’s now got the chance to make his [first](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liam-scales/profil/spieler/439497) senior appearance for his country during the international break ahead of his return to Glasgow.

### The Verdict: Celtic start pending?

[The Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/6-celtic-fringe-men-most-25167926) believe that Ange Postecoglou will have one eye on Ireland’s clash with Azerbaijan on Saturday.

So, should Scales make his senior international debut and hold his own, that could tempt Postecoglou into handing him a first Hoops start against Motherwell.

Greg Taylor remains [sidelined](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/greg-taylors-celtic-injury-timeframe-25031792) with a shoulder injury and Josip Juranvoic also picked up a [knock](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/josip-juranovic-celtic-injury-blow-25075954) recently, so Scales could be an option to feature at left-back at Fir Park.
