Celtic have been backed to secure a new in-house deal for Hoops winger Liel Abada by former Parkhead figure Frank McAvennie.

The Lowdown: Celtic’s signings under Postecoglou

Since Ange Postecoglou took charge of the club back in June 2021, the Bhoys have seen numerous players coming to and from Celtic.

The likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers have all come to the club and become key players for the Hoops under Postecoglou.

It now appears that another one of the 57-year-old’s signings has been backed by a former Celtic player to pledge his future to the club and put pen to paper on a new deal at Parkhead.

The Latest: Celtic backed for new Abada deal

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie expressed his confidence that the Israeli striker will commit his future to the Premiership champions.

The 62-year-old said: “Abada is young, he has got a lot of time. He is progressing and getting better everyday. He looked good against Real Madrid last week. He was fearless, getting the ball and wanting to run at people.

“I think he is a good one to keep hold of. For me, he will definitely sign a new contract.”

With 74 Celtic appearances under his belt across all competitions, the 21-year-old has scored 24 goals and delivered 13 assists.

In 13 league appearances this season, the winger has scored seven goals, provided two assists and racked up more shots on target (15) than any other Hoops player.

The Israeli attacker has also delivered the fourth-highest number of crosses (30) of anyone at Celtic in the current Premiership campaign, further showcasing his attacking talents.

Even though his current contract isn’t set to expire until 2026, the club should do all that they can to keep Abada at Celtic for as long as they can, as he certainly has the ability to be a long-term marquee figure for the Bhoys.
