# Celtic: Mark Halsey discusses Devante Cole incident

**Speaking recently to [This is Futbol](https://thisisfutbol.com/2021/02/blogs/scottish-premier-league/celtic-mark-halsey-discusses-potential-red-card-incident-during-motherwell-victory/), former Premier League referee Mark Halsey gave his verdict on an incident which took place in Celtic’s most recent win.**

Late on in Celtic’s 2-1 victory against Motherwell on Saturday, a result which saw the Hoops secure their [second consecutive league victory](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/55867096) for the first time since December, Motherwell centre-forward Devante [Cole quite clearly kicked out at Celtic’s Ismaila Soro](https://twitter.com/tirnaog_09/status/1358329783935991811), with the 25-year-old escaping with what looked like a very lenient yellow card for his part in the clash.

However, in a recent interview with [This is Futbol](https://thisisfutbol.com/2021/02/blogs/scottish-premier-league/celtic-mark-halsey-discusses-potential-red-card-incident-during-motherwell-victory/), Halsey stated his belief that Cole was extremely lucky to escape being given his marching orders for his reckless kick, with the ex-ref also claiming that he would expect retrospective action to be taken by the SFA.

He said: “For me, I think it’s an absolute clear red card. I think the assistant is right there as well. Kicking or attempting to kick an opponent is an act of violent conduct and Celtic were absolutely spot on, it was a red card offence for violent conduct. It’ll be interesting to see in the coming days what happens with the Motherwell player.”

Despite Halsey’s belief that Cole deserved a straight red card for his lashing out, however, [The Scottish Sun](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/6656099/motherwell-devante-cole-no-further-action-celtic-soro/) recently reported that Cole has in fact escaped further action from the SFA, as match official Nick Walsh and his assistant both saw the incident clearly.

As such, the 25-year-old will be available for selection for Motherwell’s upcoming clash with Kilmarnock, while Celtic travel to St Mirren on Wednesday evening.
