# Celtic: Mehdi Ghayedi update emerges

**The rumours linking Celtic with a move for Shabab Al Ahli forward Mehdi Ghayedi are not true, according to [GolBezan’s Arya Allahverdi](https://twitter.com/Arya_Allahverdi/status/1480613178916675595).**

### The Lowdown: Ghayedi links

The Hoops have already added to their attacking ranks this month by bringing in [Daizen Maeda](https://www.celticfc.com/news/2021/december/31/celtic-delighted-to-welcome-three-new-signings/). They are also working on making [Jota’s loan spell permanent](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12508514/celtic-hope-to-seal-permanent-jota-and-cameron-carter-vickers-deals), with [sources](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-celtic-set-sights-on-two-more-forward-signings-as-jota-deal-close/) suggesting Celtic now want a third attacking addition.

[Reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/celtic-transfer-rumours/celtic-mehdi-ghayedi-bid-rejected/) earlier in the week claimed that Celtic have had a bid rejected for Ghayedi but plan to return with an improved offer, while they are also [linked](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/hibernian-braced-for-martin-boyle-bids-as-celtic-eye-3m-winger-9hlnjvlq2) with Martin Boyle in the search for a third forward signing.

Ghayedi, who can operate [anywhere](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mehdi-ghayedi/leistungsdaten/spieler/478192) across the front three, is 23 years of age and has scored [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mehdi-ghayedi/leistungsdaten/spieler/478192) goals in 2021/22.

### The Latest: Allahverdi’s update

[Allahverdi](https://twitter.com/Arya_Allahverdi/status/1480613178916675595) took to Twitter on Monday evening to provide an update on the [Iran international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mehdi-ghayedi/profil/spieler/478192).

Following reports of Celtic having an offer turned down, Allahverdi claimed that the rumours are not true.

### The Verdict: Swoop for Boyle?

Ange Postecoglou [revealed](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/celtic/celtic-transfers-targets-emerge-in-iran-and-korea-as-ange-postecoglou-looks-for-reinforcements-3483238) last month that he is happy to scout the Iranian market when it comes to transfer targets, but it seems as if the links to Ghayedi may simply be the media putting two and two together from the manager’s revelation.

Celtic look keen to sign another wide forward, though, with another player linked being Hibernian’s Boyle. Hibs are [braced](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/hibernian-braced-for-martin-boyle-bids-as-celtic-eye-3m-winger-9hlnjvlq2) for offers from the Hoops for the Aussie, so perhaps he could be a smarter target.

Boyle, like Ghayedi, can also play [anywhere](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/hibernian-braced-for-martin-boyle-bids-as-celtic-eye-3m-winger-9hlnjvlq2) across the front three and has contributed to [60](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/hibernian-braced-for-martin-boyle-bids-as-celtic-eye-3m-winger-9hlnjvlq2) Scottish Premiership goals at Easter Road – the Hoops would surely have a proven quantity in the division.

Celtic are [yet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371) to make a Scottish Premiership addition under Postecoglou, so now may be the right opportunity with Boyle to strike a nice balance within their summer and winter arrivals.
