# Celtic: Montgomery highly-rated by Postecoglou

**Celtic reporter [Kieran Devlin](https://theathletic.co.uk/2849616/2021/09/26/celtics-left-back-mess-is-symptomatic-of-the-clubs-deeper-problems/?article_source=search&search_query=devlin) has claimed Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of Hoops youngster Adam Montgomery.**

### The Lowdown: Montgomery’s season

Montgomery has been used on multiple occasions during the current campaign, making [11](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-montgomery/leistungsdaten/spieler/757272) appearances in all competitions so far.

He’s featured in [437](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-montgomery/leistungsdaten/spieler/757272) minutes of action, taking his Celtic career tally to [509](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-montgomery/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/757272) in 13 games.

The [versatile](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-montgomery/leistungsdaten/spieler/757272) left-sided teenager, who was on just [£30-a-week](https://salarysport.com/football/scottish-premiership/celtic/) last season, has remained fit following injuries to [Greg Taylor](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/greg-taylors-celtic-injury-timeframe-25031792) and [Josip Juranovic](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/josip-juranovic-celtic-injury-blow-25075954), with Postecoglou also using [Boli Bolingoli](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/boli-bolingoli/leistungsdaten/spieler/168156) at left-back in recent weeks.

### The Latest: Devlin’s claim

Devlin, Celtic’s correspondent for [The Athletic](https://theathletic.co.uk/2849616/2021/09/26/celtics-left-back-mess-is-symptomatic-of-the-clubs-deeper-problems/?article_source=search&search_query=devlin), shared a story on Monday, looking at the club’s left-back mess.

Within his [report](https://theathletic.co.uk/2849616/2021/09/26/celtics-left-back-mess-is-symptomatic-of-the-clubs-deeper-problems/?article_source=search&search_query=devlin), he claimed that Montgomery is highly rated by Postecoglou at Lennoxtown, however, the Hoops boss is wary of managing the 19-year-old’s time on the pitch.

Devlin claims that there is the impression Montgomery could be viewed as the long-term solution at left-back, with Postecoglou believing he is predominantly a left-back rather than a winger.

### The Verdict: Time for a league start?

All but [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-montgomery/leistungsdaten/spieler/757272) of Montgomery’s appearances this season have come as a left-back, so after the Hoops’ Europa League clash with Bayer Leverkusen in the week, perhaps it is time to hand the youngster a first Scottish Premiership start.

Celtic have seen first-hand with [Stephen Welsh](https://www.transfermarkt.com/stephen-welsh/leistungsdaten/spieler/403568) how a Hoops youngster can impress when given the opportunity, so a trip to Pittodrie against [Aberdeen](https://www.celticfc.com/fixtures/) on the weekend could be an ideal chance for Montgomery to prove his worth from the off.
