# Celtic: Neil Lennon confirms lengthy setback for Christopher Jullien

**Celtic manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that defender Christopher Jullien will spend several more months on the sidelines.**

### Jullien ruled out again

Speaking before yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox (cited by [Anthony Joseph](https://twitter.com/AnthonyRJoseph/status/1345343223401762816)), the Irish tactician said that the 27-year-old will out for “three to four months” with a knee injury.

This comes after Jullien returned to the first-team at the end of November after missing 13 games following a strenuous knock to his back at the beginning of the 2020/21 campaign ([TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christopher-jullien/verletzungen/spieler/201737)).

The 6 foot 4 centre back has only played 14 games in all competitions so far during a season which has been hampered with fitness issues for the former France U20 international.

Since his [£7.2m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christopher-jullien/transfers/spieler/201737/transfer_id/2527731) move from Toulouse in 2019, Jullien has scored 10 goals and provided four assists from 61 outings ([TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christopher-jullien/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/201737)), and was previously described as [“excellent”](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/us/news/neil-lennon-praises-christopher-jullien-for-performance-in-defeat-of-reykjavik-1597786847000) by his manager Neil Lennon who is a huge fan of his defensive work.

### Transfer Tavern Verdict

Celtic supporters will feel like they have been kicked while they are down. After their disappointing [1-0](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55450349) defeat to Rangers yesterday in what was a huge game for the Bhoys, Jullien’s extended absence will hurt even more.

The Hoops are now [19 points behind](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/scottish-premiership/table) their arch-rivals, albeit with a few games in hand. But the pressure will be on Lennon to bring fresh faces in over the next four weeks.

Time will tell whether he needs to sign a centre-back to fill Jullien’s shoes during that time. But whatever happens, Celtic must bridge the gap to ease the pressure on the manager.
