# Celtic: Neil Lennon says he is happy with the club’s business in January transfer window

**Celtic manager Neil Lennon has expressed his satisfaction with the club’s transfer dealings this month as the January window nears its conclusion, despite fans being [livid](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premier/celtic/celtic-fans-were%e2%80%a6ransfer-activity/) at the lack of business done.**

Midfielder [Ismaila Soro](https://www.celticfc.net/news/17446) became the Hoops’ second signing of the window earlier this week after the [mid-January arrival of striker Patryk Klimala](https://www.celticfc.net/news/17379) and Lennon seems content with those two additions to his squad.

Speaking to [celticfc.net](https://www.celticfc.net/news/17451), he said: “If I don’t do anything else I’ll be happy. I have a great squad with real quality in it. We’ve got a couple of players in and we’ve streamlined the squad a little bit. Patryk Klimala will add a little bit of firepower and pace to the attack which is what we’re needing.” He concluded: “We’ve got two good players and if it stops there then great.”

Klimala came from Jagiellonia Bialystok in his native Poland after scoring [seven goals in 17 league games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/patryk-klimala/leistungsdaten/spieler/387153) this season and, ahead of Wednesday night’s clash at St Johnstone, has made [two substitute appearances at Parkhead without yet scoring](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/patryk-klimala/leistungsdaten/spieler/387153). His arrival adds further competition at centre-forward, where Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths have already scored [more than 20 goals between them](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/leistungsdaten/verein/371) this term.

Soro’s arrival provides [another defensive or central midfield option](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371) along with Scott Brown, Nir Bitton and Olivier Ntcham. The Ivorian is unlikely to add much of a goal threat – he has [scored once in 103 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ismaila-soro/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/466765) in his club career – but he has been lauded for his ball-winning ability and distribution. Oliver Birch of [Read Celtic](https://readceltic.com/2019/12/02/factfile-who-is-the-3million-rated-ismaila-soro/) wrote that the 21-year-old is “a bundle of energy who is good on the ball and has the ability to jink past players in midfield after dispossessing them”.

In terms of outgoings, the [sale of Scott Sinclair to Preston](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51042896) after a [62-goal Celtic career](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/scott-sinclair/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/31552) was disappointing but he had [barely featured at Parkhead this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/scott-sinclair/leistungsdaten/spieler/31552), while the loan exits of [Lee O’Connor](https://ptfc.co.uk/ptfc-news/loan-news-lee-oconnor-joins-on-loan/), [Jonathan Afolabi](https://dafc.co.uk/story.php?t=Jonathan_Afolabi_signs_for_Pars&ID=11697), [Jack Hendry](https://www.celticfc.net/news/17419) and [Eboue Kouassi](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51220131) were all justified given that the [former two haven’t even played for the first team](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/leistungsdaten/verein/371) while Kouassi [didn’t feature for the Hoops this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eboue-kouassi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/314137) and Hendry played a paltry [11 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-hendry/leistungsdaten/spieler/363223).

The arrivals of Klimala and Soro reinforce positions where Celtic [seemed a bit light](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371) at the start of the month, while the loan departures of several fringe players will hopefully give them a better chance of first team football elsewhere. Notably, the Hoops have made two signings this month whereas Premiership title rivals Rangers [haven’t brought in anyone new](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rangers-fc/transfers/verein/124/plus/0?saison_id=2019&pos=&detailpos=&w_s=w), yet it is Steven Gerrard’s side who are [chasing rather than leading](https://spfl.co.uk/league/premiership/table) in the title race.

Celtic still seem under-resourced [at centre-back and on the right of midfield](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371). With Hatem Abd Elhamed [playing mostly at right-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hatem-abd-elhamed/leistungsdaten/spieler/176990) under Lennon and [currently injured,](https://www.67hailhail.com/news/celtic-defender-hatem-abd-elhamed-posts-positive-injury-update-on-instagram/) the Hoops have just [three senior central defenders](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371). Meanwhile, James Forrest’s only right winger alternatives are Jonny Hayes (who has been [played chiefly at left-back this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonny-hayes/leistungsdaten/spieler/52380)) and Marian Shved ([35 minutes of game-time](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marian-shved/leistungsdaten/spieler/359247) in 2019/20).

If Forrest and the three centre-backs can stay fit and perform solidly to the season’s end, however, Lennon is right to look back with satisfaction at the business that Celtic have done in January despite [dissent from many of the club’s fans](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premier/celtic/celtic-fans-were%e2%80%a6ransfer-activity/) in the replies to [this tweet](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1222165726603218944), with the Hoops well-stocked in most positions and [on course for a ninth successive title](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/platzierungen/verein/371).
