# Celtic: Neil Lennon wants four more signings this summer

**Celtic manager Neil Lennon is hoping to add several new faces to his squad in the remainder of the summer transfer window.**

The [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/kieran-tierney-always-one-bhoys-18325608) reported that Lennon is targeting “[another three or four \[signings\], at least](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/kieran-tierney-always-one-bhoys-18325608)” in the coming weeks.

According to the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/kieran-tierney-always-one-bhoys-18325608), many Celtic fans want the club to reinvest any income from the potential sale of Kieran Tierney, for whom Arsenal have had two bids rejected [(as reported by BBC)](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48979998), into strengthening the Hoops’ squad.

The [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/kieran-tierney-always-one-bhoys-18325608) added that, whether or not Tierney is sold, Lennon still wants up to four new additions to his squad as Celtic aim to win a [ninth consecutive Scottish Premiership title](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/celtic/eight-steps-to-eight-in-a-row-how-celtic-won-the-league-1-4921036).

Celtic have made just [three signings so far](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371) in the summer transfer window, bringing in defenders Christopher Jullien and Boli Bolingoli for [£7million](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48770628) and [£3m](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48861383) respectively, along with the [arrival of 18-year-old midfielder Luca Connell](https://www.celticfc.net/news/16364).

[Celtic’s current squad](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371) consists of two goalkeepers, eight defenders, five defensive or central midfielders, three wide midfielders, three attacking midfielders, four attacking wingers and three strikers.

They appear well-stocked for centre-backs ([four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371)), defensive midfielders, attacking midfielders, left-wingers and centre forwards ([three each](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371)).

However, they have only [one natural right-back in Anthony Ralston](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371), [one specialist left-winger in Lewis Morgan](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371) (although Jonny Hayes, Ryan Christie and James Forrest can all play on that side) and [one natural right-wing forward in Marian Shved](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kadernachposition/verein/371) (but again, Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths can operate out wide as well as at centre forward).

The lack of right-back cover for Ralston after the [exit of Mikael Lustig](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/emotional-mikael-lustig-confirms-celtic-16544730) should make that Lennon’s priority in the transfer market. According to [Alan Morrison’s scouting report](https://thecelticbhoys.com/2019/01/04/anthony-ralston-right-back-back/) of Ralston on [thecelticbhoys.com](https://thecelticbhoys.com/2019/01/04/anthony-ralston-right-back-back/), the 20-year-old rarely breaks the defensive lines or takes the team upfield with forward passes.

When examining potential right-back signings, the Celtic manager would be well advised to look at an attacking wing-back with a track record for covering the full length of the pitch, providing a decent supply of assists and getting the ball into the attacking third of the pitch.

If Lennon can find a right-back to fit those attributes and balance out Ralston’s weaknesses in that regard, he should have then filled at least one major problem position in his squad.
