The lowdown: Wanted man
Having come through the youth ranks at Benfica, Semedo has obtained invaluable experience outside of Portugal after spending time on loan at Nottingham Forest and Reading.
Despite only arriving at Vitoria last summer in a £1.35million switch (Transfermarkt), the 24-year-old looks set to be on the move on a permanent basis once again and has already been indexed to the Glasgow giants.
Following a recent report from A Bola claiming that the Scottish champions are at the ‘forefront’ of the chase involving several clubs to sign Semedo, the required fee has now been revealed…
The latest: Contact made, price named
It’s claimed that the Portuguese outfit are ‘willing to sell’ Semedo for just £1.3million in the transfer window and Ange Postecoglou could view the ace as the ideal candidate to replace Nir Bitton after the Israel international left as a free agent last month.
The report also states that the race to sign the ex-Benfica man – who was described as ‘powerful’ by ex-manager Veljko Paunović upon joining Reading – is now ‘hotting up’ amidst growing interest.
The verdict: Get it done
Impressing whilst on loan in the Championship, where the workmanlike midfielder scored four times and provided three assists in 64 outings, Semedo certainly appears to be of a ready-made level to immediately improve the Parkhead ranks.
Last season, the 6 foot 2 star continued an impressive start to his senior career by winning 4.6 duels, making one interception and 1.1 clearances on average per game in the Primeira Liga.
Operating almost exclusively as a defensive midfielder, Semedo would be a superb fit into Postecoglou’s squad at Lennoxtown after the departure of Bitton and at the mooted price would represent a highly logical piece of business from the Hoops’ hierarchy.
