As some Celtic injury news now comes out of Lennoxtown, it appears Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou has been handed a major headache ahead of Sunday’s crunch Scottish Cup semi-final clash with Rangers.
The Lowdown: Historic occasion…
The Old Firm are set to clash heads in the Scottish Cup at Hampden in what should prove to be a feisty and entertaining encounter.
For the first time in the competition’s 148-year history, the semi-final stages have been made up of both Glasgow and Edinburgh derby match-ups – coming as exciting for the neutral and nervy for the supporter.
Hearts and Hibs faced off today with the Hoops and Rangers set to go head-to-head tomorrow afternoon.
As the latest injury news comes out of Lennoxtown, though, a key player will miss the Glasgow derby in Giorgos Giakoumakis.
The Latest: Ange headache…
As relayed by The Scotsman, Postecoglou’s ‘pivotal’ striker has been ruled out of the Rangers match with Celtic’s boss now facing a ‘dilemma’ of who will take up the central forward role.
Of the candidates, it is believed that Celtic could turn to exciting starlet Liel Abada down the middle or opt to slot in Daizen Maeda if Kyogo Furuhashi isn’t ready to start the full 90.
The Verdict: Setback for Celtic…
Scoring nine goals and providing another in ten SPFL starts this season, Ange being without his second-top goal scorer in the league will come as a hammer blow.
His absence, however, is somewhat mitigated by the return of Furuhashi, who’s proved a consistent threat himself when available – bagging eight league strikes over 2021/2022.
We believe it should be Kyogo, a firm fan favourite, who gets the nod on Sunday, even if it means withdrawing the summer signing after an hour or so.
