Celtic coach Stephen McManus will change from first-team duties to a B team role behind the scenes at Parkhead, reliable journalist Anthony Joseph has confirmed.
The Lowdown: McManus part of Ange’s setup
Since retiring, the 39-year-old has gone into coaching, initially being involved with Celtic’s Under-18s before joining Ange Postecoglou’s backroom team.
McManus is now set for another change, following a fresh update from behind the scenes at Lennoxtown.
The Latest: Change of role confirmed
Taking to Twitter, Joseph claimed that the ex-Hoops skipper would now take up a B team role after the arrival of Harry Kewell:
“CONFIRMED: Harry Kewell has joined Celtic as a first team coach. Stephen McManus will move to coaching the B team.”
The Verdict: Interesting challenge
It is an interesting change for McManus, who will now be tasked with improving young players and enhancing their chances of walking the path he took into the first team.
Will Postecoglou sign a new deal?
The Scot knows Celtic inside out and will prove to be a good mentor for the players he is coaching, not to mention dovetailing nicely with fellow coach Tommy McIntyre.
There is an argument to say that McManus may feel put out that Kewell has effectively come in and taken his role, but this is a great opportunity to prove himself in a different job.
In other news, Celtic are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign one player. Find out who it is here.
