Celtic winger Ben Doak looks likely to join Liverpool, according to The Athletic.

The Lowdown: Follow Barkas and Ajeti?

The 16-year-old is yet to pen a professional deal at Parkhead and was linked with Liverpool and Chelsea during the January window.

Doak has made two senior appearances in 2022, with the Hoops looking to tie the winger down to a long-term deal in Glasgow, however, it looks as if their attempts will prove unsuccessful.

Exit updates have emerged this month on Vasilis Barkas and Albian Ajeti, and it seems as if Doak is also set to be on the move.

The Latest: The Athletic drop Doak update

The Athletic’s James Pearce shared a story on Monday, suggesting the Reds were closing in on a deal for Doak.

The draw of working with Jurgen Klopp has reportedly been pivotal in a decision, with the Reds only needing to fork out minor compensation in a cut-price transfer.

The Verdict: Not ideal

As Kieran Devlin mentions, Doak’s exit will hurt the Hoops, who have struggled in recent years to keep their young talent in Scotland.

A number of the club’s most talented academy players have left in recent years, with Doak now set to link up with former Celtic goalkeeper Liam Hughes at Liverpool.

Another exit could also be on the cards over the coming months in Karamoko Dembele, with the 18-year-old’s professional deal set to expire at the end of May.

The Hoops will be desperate to put a stop to their youngsters leaving before making a serious impact in the first-team, but it appears as if Doak’s mind is already made up.
