Celtic: Cameron Carter-Vickers should be done ‘as soon as the window opens’ -Celtic News

Ange Postecoglou will want Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers to  sign a permanent deal at Parkhead as soon as the transfer window opens, according to Frank McAvennie.

The Lowdown: Stellar season on loan

The 24-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements by Tottenham last summer, instead joining the Hoops on loan in order to be a regular starter and advance his career.

Carter-Vickers has done just that, fitting in seamlessly under Postecoglou, excelling at the heart of the defence and averaging 4.3 aerial duel wins per game across 27 Scottish Premiership appearances, helping his side to six points clear above Rangers.

Celtic have the option to sign the American on July 1st and it seems to be just a matter of time before it’s locked up, with recent reports revealing the player’s camp feel Glasgow is the best place for his continued development.

The Latest: McAvennie expected permanent move

Someone who believes the move will indeed go through is former Hoops favourite McAvennie, who provided his thoughts on the matter to Football Insider:

“He has been brilliant at the back and he popped up at the right moment on Sunday.

“Ange will want this deal done as soon as the window opens. He won’t want to be messing around. The last thing he wants is a transfer saga that means Carter-Vickers doesn’t come back until just before the season starts.

“Let’s get him in early so he can have a full pre-season up here. I think this one will get done. I don’t think he has a future at Tottenham and we should be getting the Champions League group money to spend.”

The Verdict: Absolute no-brainer

Frankly, there are arguably no negatives when it comes to Celtic signing Carter-Vickers permanently this summer, so the hope is that the transfer goes through.

At 24, he is at a fantastic age in terms of developing into something even more formidable, already forging a promising-looking centre-back partnership with Carl Starfelt.

The fact that Carter-Vickers would only cost £6million is also a bargain, considering he is already an eight-time capped USA international and has been described as an ‘outstanding’ player by teammate Greg Taylor all the while backing that praise with his displays on the pitch.

In other news, McAvennie has also hailed one ‘amazing’ Celtic player. Find out who it is here.
