Celtic: Hoops handed Cho Gue-Sung transfer boost

Celtic are now in pole position in the pursuit of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors forward Cho Gue-Sung, according to reports.
The Lowdown: On the move?
The South Korean is currently contracted to Kim Sang-Sik’s side in K League 1, but has recently sparked rumours that he could be on the move after admitting he wants to play somewhere he’ll receive sufficient game time.
The Scottish Premiership giants are one of several clubs to have been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old, and Ange Postecoglou now appears to have had his chances of landing the striker in the winter market bolstered.
The Latest: Celtic in pole
According to the Daily Record, Celtic have been given a boost in the race for Cho after two potential suitors, Borussia Dortmund and Ferencvaros, have ‘dropped their interest’.
The Hoops, Rennes and Fenerbahce are therefore the three remaining contenders set to battle it out for the attacker’s signature, though it’s believed that the Glasgow outfit are currently ‘leading the chase’.
Jeonbuk Hyundai value their star at just £2.2m, a price which is reportedly ‘reasonable’ for the Parkhead side.
The Verdict: Cho vs Almasi?
Celtic have been heavily linked with a move for Banik Ostrava forward Ladislav Almasi should they fail to land Cho, but it’s a deal for the latter that they should focus on pursuing.
The Ansan native netted 21 goals and provided five assists in just 35 appearances across all competitions in his most recent season and has the versatility to operate on the left wing as well as at centre-forward (Transfermarkt).
Described as a ‘handful for defenders’ by Pete O’Rourke, Cho would also pose an aerial threat standing at 6 foot 2, making him the perfect candidate for the Bhoys.
