Celtic midfielder David Turnbull is still yet to return to training following his hamstring injury.

The Lowdown: Two-month timeline

Turnbull, labelled as ‘outstanding’ by Ange Postecoglou, hasn’t been seen since the Scottish League Cup final win over Hibernian back in December.

Reports towards the end of 2021 suggested that the creative midfielder was set to be sidelined for two months. That prediction has come true, with Turnbull missing high profile games against Rangers and a two-legged Europa Conference League tie with Bodo/Glimt in February.

Many would’ve been hoping that Turnbull would be back in training as we are now in March, especially after Postecoglou confirmed he was close last week.

The Latest: Postecoglou’s comments

Celtic shared an exclusive interview with Postecoglou on their official Twitter page in the build-up to the clash with St Mirren.

The Hoops boss was asked for an update on injuries, to which he said there was ‘nothing in the short term’ when it comes to returns for both Turnbull and Kyogo Furuhashi.

The Scot is ‘working through his rehab’ and is ahead of Furuhashi but doesn’t seem to be back in training as of yet.

The Verdict: A worry

We are now approaching the crunch stage of the campaign, and knowing Turnbull is yet to return to training is a worry.

The Hoops lacked creativity in the 0-0 draw with Hibernian on Sunday, registering just three shots on target, so getting Turnbull back, who has created a whopping 53 more chances than any of his teammates, appears to be crucial.

Postecoglou gave fans hope last week saying he is ‘almost’ back in training, so hopefully, he will make a full return before the month is out.
