Celtic: Dean Jones makes Oliver Abildgaard claim

Celtic: Dean Jones makes Oliver Abildgaard claim -Celtic News

Journalist Dean Jones has shared the feelings from inside Celtic following their move for Oliver Abildgaard.

The Lowdown: Summer business

The Hoops were extremely busy over the summer, adding nine players to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Last season’s loan moves for Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Daizen Maeda were made permanent, while Alexandro Bernabei and Sead Haksabanovic also arrived in seven-figure deals.

Aaron Mooy and Benjamin Siegrist were brought in for free and Moritz Jenz and Abildgaard were signed on loan, with the latter being the final summer addition by the Premiership champions.

The Latest: Jones’ comments

Talking to GiveMeSport in a story shared on Saturday evening, Jones said that Celtic are ‘quite excited’ about Abildgaard’s arrival and that Hoops officials view the move for him as ‘important’.

The reporter stated:

“They’re quite excited about that (signing Abildgaard). They feel like it’s particularly important given the intensity of their season.

“They’ve got a really tough Champions League group, which you can’t expect to get out of, but you want to be competitive. And I think that this is key, to make sure that they’ve got a squad that’s capable of handling that.”

Will Abildgaard be a good signing for Celtic?

The Verdict: Smart signing

Abildgaard appears to be a shrewd addition and one which was needed at Parkhead. The 26-year-old can play as a central or defensive midfielder and has even lined out in a wide role and as a centre-back. [Transfermarkt]

Celtic lost an experienced versatile player in Nir Bitton over the summer, so it looks as if Abildgaard will fill the void left by the Israel international, something which could come in handy in what will be a busy campaign for Ange Postecoglou’s side, not least with Real Madrid coming up in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday night.
