Celtic are 'competing' to sign Al Ahly star Mohamed Magdy, according to the player’s agent.

The Lowdown: Two in already

The Hoops have once again made an early start on their January business by already announcing two separate signings.

Centre-back Yuki Kobayashi was the first to sign a five-year contract in Scotland and has since been followed by right-back Alistair Johnston, who also penned a five-year deal.

It seems as if additions further up the pitch are next on the list for Ange Postecoglou and head of recruitment Mark Lawwell, with Magdy, nicknamed ‘Afsha’, a target.

The Latest: Magdy update

The Daily Record relayed comments from Magdy’s agent, Abdelrahman Ismail, regarding the attacking midfielder’s future.

He said that Celtic, as well as Besiktas and Galatasaray ‘are competing to sign’ his client.

The Verdict: Long-term target?

Magdy is primarily an attacking midfielder who can also play on the wing if required and has been described as a 'wonderful player' by Dinamo Zagreb manager Ante Cacic.

He appears to have been on the Parkhead radar for some time now after first being linked with a move back in April 2021.

It seems as if a transfer may finally gather pace ahead of a possible switch in 2023, so this could be one to watch as the club look to add to Ange Postecoglou’s squad even further.
