Celtic: Hoops could 'rekindle' interest in Cho Gue-sung - Celtic News

Celtic could decide to ‘rekindle their interest’ in Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors forward Cho Gue-sung this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lowdown: Celtic linked with Cho move

The Hoops have been strongly linked with a move for the South Korea star recently, following an impressive 2022 World Cup campaign from the attacker.

Cho scored twice in four appearances for his country in Qatar, helping them reach the knockout rounds and enhancing his reputation with some good performances plus a notable disagreement with none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.

It looks as though Celtic won’t be signing him this month, however, having recently acquired the services of Oh Hyeon-gyu from Suwon Bluewings.

The Latest: Summer signing instead?

That’s not to say that Cho won’t be a Hoops player, with O’Rourke telling Give Me Sport that a summer move could come to fruition:

“They’ve got Oh in, who looks a good player and a player that Ange Postecoglou rates highly as well.

“So Oh’s come in, it’ll probably pave the way for Giakoumakis to leave, but I’m sure Celtic might rekindle their interest in Cho come the summer, if they’re still in the market for forward reinforcements.”

The Verdict: Get it done

Cho could be a really exciting signing by Celtic if they get a deal over the line, allowing him to link up with international teammate Oh at Parkhead.

The 25-year-old has scored six goals in 20 caps for South Korea, while at club level, he has netted 51 times in total across 132 appearances, showing that he is relatively prolific.

The fact that Cho, with 2.8 million followers on Instagram, is also considered a high-profile heart-throb back in his homeland could be an added bonus for Celtic, in terms of driving up revenue with shirt sales and general interest in the club around the globe.
