Celtic: Hoops lead Jordan Larsson transfer race

Celtic: Hoops lead Jordan Larsson transfer race -Celtic News

Celtic are reportedly the frontrunners to sign Swedish forward Jordan Larsson this summer, according to a report from Russian outlet RB Sport.

The lowdown: Family ties

Son of Hoops legend Henrik, the 25-year-old has already followed in his father’s seismic footsteps by becoming an international striker.

However, Larsson Jr hasn’t quite managed to emulate the lofty heights that his dad reached on a domestic level, as the rather well-travelled frontman has experienced a career which has taken him to Netherlands, Sweden and Russia.

Currently without a club following the expiry of his contract at Spartak Moscow, Larsson – who was once touted with a move to either Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona or West Ham – is seemingly preparing for the next adventure…

The latest: Celtic the ‘most likely option’

As per RB Sport, a move to Celtic is now considered the ‘most likely option’ for the seven-cap Sweden striker.

It’s claimed that the Hoops are ‘showing interest’ in Larsson, whose father has a ‘good relationship with management’ at Parkhead owing to his legendary feats for the club.

The report also states that ‘sources told RB Sport’ that there is currently little interest from around Europe in the attacker, who was recently praised for his ‘brilliant’ numbers by football analyst Marcus Bring.

Celtic fans! Do you remember who scored your first league goal of the 21/22 season?

The verdict: No-brainer

Still valued at £7.2m despite being a free agent (Transfermarkt), signing Larsson for nothing this summer is an opportunity which simply cannot be ignored by the Parkhead hierarchy, regardless of the sentimental and potential commercial aspects.

Predominantly operating as an out-and-out centre-forward, the man with the famous surname can also play in wide areas but would primarily offer competition to Liel Abada, Kyogo Furuhashi and Georgios Giakoumakis.

While the Swedish top-flight may not be the leading barometer for judging potential success in Scotland, an outstanding 7.39 Sofascore rating whilst winning 4.6 duels, completing two successful dribbles and taking 2.7 shots per game in the Allsvenskan cannot be ignored when it comes to current form.

Boasting a plethora of attacking attributes including crossing, long shots and finishing (WhoScored), if Celtic’s interest is genuine, then Ange Postecoglou would no doubt welcome someone of Larsson’s raw talent to the Lennoxtown ranks. As such, the club should be pushing hard to get this one over the line.
