Celtic forward Jota has been praised for his ‘stunning’ free-kick during the Champions League game against Real Madrid by journalist Josh Bunting.

The Lowdown: Six-goal thriller

The Premiership champions were the visitors at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night, where they suffered a crushing 5-1 defeat at the hands of Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Whilst the Hoops’ European campaign came to a disappointing end, one of the most notable moments of the match was the 23-year-old’s set piece which appears to have turned heads, despite it not having any impact on the final outcome.

The Latest: Bunting’s reaction

Taking to Twitter, Bunting couldn’t believe Jota’s execution for Celtic’s only goal of the game.

He wrote: “Have to say it might be only a consolation but that’s a stunning free-kick from Jota over the wall and into the net for 5-1. The technique and weight he gets on that ball is absolutely perfect. Lovely goal.”

The Verdict: One step too far

Ange Postecoglou’s men have been brilliant in the Premiership so far this season, winning 11 of their 12 matches, and whilst it was a fantastic achievement qualifying for the Champions League group stage, it proved to be just one step too far.

The Bhoys failed to win any of their group games and only netted four goals in six outings, all too often failing to take advantage of their chances when they were on top in certain games.

The one benefit of being out of Europe, though, is that they can now focus all their attention on the league, where they are currently four points clear of arch-rivals Rangers in a bid to retain their title.
