As the start of the 2021/22 campaign draws closer, Celtic will be looking to get their ducks in a row in order to reclaim the Premiership title from their Glasgow rivals at the first attempt.
Ange Postecoglou has not dipped his toes into the transfer water as of yet, although the Hoops have been heavily linked with moves for Mat Ryan and Erik Sviatchenko.
Despite these rumours, perhaps the Scottish giants’ most documented summer pursuit has been that of 28-year-old Wyke.

Looking set to reject English Championship advances in favour of a move to Celtic Park [The Northern Echo], Phillips was quick to give his take on what the prospective deal could mean for Postecoglou’s men in an exclusive interview with Football Insider.
Speaking to the publication, the former Sunderland marksman stated: “I’m assuming Celtic are offering him five times what Sunderland are and he can command more because he is a free agent.
“I think he could do a job up at Celtic but only if you give him the right service. You have to play a certain way when he is in your side, you need to be direct.
“Sunderland went from back to front quite early at times. If you are playing with wingers he will always provide you an option in the box. He is always in and around the penalty spot.
“His signing would be a big indication as to how Postecoglou plans to play next season."
The Verdict: Wyke would be an excellent addition on a free transfer
Phillips correctly points out the direct nature of Wyke’s centre-forward play, as he is someone who enjoys sniffing around the penalty area and he thrives off pinpoint service. This was proven in abundance during his astonishing 2020/21 season, as he scored an incredible 30 goals in 53 appearances for the Wearside club [Transfermarkt].
Wyke would appear to be an excellent addition for Celtic if the deal is completed, with the added caveat of being available on a free transfer [Football Insider]. Low-risk but potentially high-reward, he may just be the type of player the Celts need to reclaim domestic superiority next season.
