Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has touted current Hoops winger Liel Abada to leave Parkhead in the next couple of years.

The Lowdown: Abada's time at Celtic

Having joined the Bhoys in July 2021, the attacker has gone on to make 79 appearances for the Parkhead club across all competitions, scoring 24 goals and delivering 15 assists along the way.

Earlier this month, Fabrizio Romano revealed that clubs in the English Premier League are following Abada for a potential future transfer.

With that in mind, McAvennie has shared his thoughts on the matter.

The Latest: Abada backed for Celtic exit

Speaking to Football Insider, the Parkhead legend had his say about Abada and what the future could hold for him with the Premiership champions.

The 63-year-old said of the Israeli: "I think he will go eventually to one of the big clubs in the Premier League. He is only 21, he has got a lot [of] time. I think Celtic supporters will see him for a year or two more.

"Teams in England want to buy the finished article and he has got a long way to go before he is that. One thing he has got is time on his hands. And he is not short of confidence either, that is for sure."

The Verdict: Big payday for Celtic

Bearing in mind how impressive Abada has been since joining Celtic in terms of his goals and assists, it's easy to see why he has been mentioned with a move to the top tier of English football.

To further highlight how much of a standout attacking figure he is for Ange Postecoglou's side, the £15k-per-week winger has the second-highest rate of shots at goal per 90 minutes (3.95) in the Premiership this season at Celtic, along with the highest percentage for shots on target (55%).

While it would be a blow for the club to potentially lose a player of his quality in the next couple of years, this could give the Hoops the chance to secure a significant transfer fee for the winger, who they signed for a mere £3.4m.

In our view, while it should be Celtic's main priority to keep hold of Abada for as long as they can, it would be understandable if they were to cash in should an attractive offer be presented for him.
