Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis is still in 'negotiations' with Atlanta United over a £4.3m move, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

The Lowdown: Giakoumakis on the move

The 28-year-old has been a strong servant for the Hoops since arriving in 2021, scoring 26 goals in 57 appearances and playing his part in Ange Postecoglou's side winning two trophies last season.

However, Giakoumakis looks highly likely to seal a move away from Parkhead before the end of the January transfer window as he looks for a fresh challenge elsewhere.

A move to Atlanta appears to be on the cards, and a recent update has emerged regarding the situation.

The Latest: Negotiations ongoing

Taking to Twitter, Joseph said that talks are still ongoing between Celtic and the MLS club over the transfer of the Greece international.

The Sky Sports reporter tweeted late on Saturday night:

"UPDATE: Atlanta United's late bid for Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis is understood to be worth up to £4.3m. The two clubs are still in negotiations."

The Verdict: He'll be a loss for Celtic

It would now seem surprising if Giakoumakis is still a Celtic player come February, with a move to Atlanta looking set to be completed.

Should the £12,000-per-week attacker move on as expected, his end product could be a big loss for Postecoglou, having scored six times in the Premiership this season despite only starting four matches.

That lack of starts may sum up why Giakoumakis wants to leave, though, and it is hard to begrudge him a move if he isn't considered one of the main attacking players at the club.

The hope is that the arrival of Hyeon-gyu Oh will help make up for the expected loss of the 11-cap Greece international, making it a seamless transition and not impacting Celtic's hopes of more silverware this season.
